Overall Satisfaction with Litmus
In my company, we use Litmus for testing, viewing, and getting approval for emails before them being deployed by our CRM. Emails are proofed across mobile and desktop, dark and normal mode, and different operating systems. Litmus flags any delivery, rendering, or visual problems we may face on the bottom through red notifications - this could be anything from rendering issues, missing alt text, or warnings for spam. This helps us address and solve these problems swiftly.
Pros
- Alerts: users are notified whenever comments or approvals are made on emails, with regular reminders being sent in case some were missed
- Centralised: all members can collaborate and give their feedback on emails, providing a better flow and efficiency for the hierarchy of approvals.
- Integration: very smooth integration, with little to no errors, with our CRM tool.
- Validation: alt text, scaling and image ratios are validated
- Dark mode: a very important accessibility tool used by many email users, this compatibility theme is often overlooked on other platforms. Litmus, however, makes it clear how important it is to review and track emails in this format.
Cons
- I've not seen many limitations but I have noticed that sometimes emails sent from our CRM take too long to land in Litmus, or sometimes don't land at all.
- As a beginner it was quite difficult for me to make my way around the platform - I thought "Create new" CTA was actually creating something new, maybe "Import from CRM" would have been more understandable. There were a few others but I remember this one.
- In the Emails section, whenever I hover over an email, I want to be able to copy the subject line instead of getting the different CTAs appear intrusively (Summary, Builder, Previews & QA, Proof, Analytics, Monitor) - maybe these could appear on the bottom of the textbox, instead of them being imposed on top?
- The insights report from SFMC shows which emails had the highest engagement - when this is shared with the team, we are delighted to find out what we did right. When we have to show performance justification, this report is always shared first.
- Greater visibility by use of tracking codes shows us which AB test performed better - the engagement graph (read, skimmed, glanced, unread) is a useful tool that helps us understand what kind of content/subject lines readers are looking for.
- The weekly insights digest makes us understand where we stand as a business week over week. When we share the performance with our Creative & Copywriting teams, they can then look into how to better optimise.
We always compare multiple sources of data (Litmus, GA4, and SFMC) instead of relying on just one, to ensure there isn't any discrepancy.
The performance metrics makes us understand best practices, we rely on Litmus to help us detect any issues before being delivered to clients. Email deliverability has consistently improved after we started adopting Litmus' flagged recommendations. Open rates help us better fine-tune our content strategy as well as how to segment our audiences.
I have regrettably not used this service yet, but I could make a conversation with the team to look into this.
- Mailchimp Transactional Email (mandrill)
I selected Litmus because it provides an all-in-one powerful tool to update content, collaborate with teams, and analyse data seamlessly. This saves a big amount of time for the whole team. The insights are more granular allowing us to focus deeper into improvements. The preview tools is one of the most important features we heavily rely on, as we can see how emails are previewed across multiple devices. Speed is also a major factor. Being an organisation sending out many emails, we are happy with the speed and efficiency of accessing and organising emails.
