Overall Satisfaction with LogicMonitor

We use LogicMonitor across the whole IT dept. This includes teams from network, voice, servers, firewalls and applications. We have dashboards for all of them to quickly monitor their systems. It enables everyone to look at their own equipment from high level or dig into the individual metrics. Having the collectors distributed across the country is very useful. Each one monitors devices close to it and provides rapid notification when something goes wrong.
  • Distributed collectors
  • Web based admin/dashboards
  • Very diverse monitoring platforms
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Auto Balanced Collector Group
  • Better report generation
  • Allows us to respond faster to outages
  • Some features are not as mature to other platforms
  • Fellow IT personnel can investigate issues on their own
  • SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm)
They do a good job for the most part. The alert dependancy of [LogicMonitor] needs work. We have been waiting a long time for it and if they can get all the bugs out it will be just as great as the SW version. [LogicMonitor] is better in regards to the collector deployment and web based admin.
Only a few times have I gotten a tech from logicmonitor who didn't quite help out as well as others have done in the past. Some technicians though go above and beyond the call of duty and really helped us out with issues. Even providing additional solutions that made the platform much better for us.
We are mostly an on-prem environment. We like having everything in house to control everything and also not share resources. Which you could get with a hosted platform or something in the public cloud. We have over 1500 devices and instances in the 10s of thousands. Our devices span the entire United States. Plus one office in Canada. So having collectors in each timezone is very effective.
It is very easy to manage the platform itself. Upgrading the collectors is only a few clicks. Also updating the modules thru the web admin is very easy. This is a great advantage from our former platform.
LogicMonitor was helpful in replacing our old monitoring platform. However there are some other platforms we continue to use. They provide info that LogicMonitor does not do or at this time does not do. The platform LogicMonitor did replace does provide more visibility into our networking gear. The web admin is easier to use and is great for sending a URL to someone to view what you are viewing.
I love having many collectors spread out all collecting data to send up to the cloud. Our previous platform was a single server in the data center. It was often overloaded and didn't notify us in a timely manor. The web based admin is great. Not having to install software to manage is great. Also being cloud based is great for checking alerts/devices when not at my desk. There is room for improvement with the RCA feature. Our old platform used to only send one notice when a site went down. With [LogicMonitor] the feature is not quite there yet to only tell me the router is down. Instead I get many emails that the router and all the gear behind it is down when we lose an mpls link.
