Overall Satisfaction with ManageEngine Endpoint Central
We use ManageEngine Endpoint Central to help with managing inventory, managing space on our VM desktops, Patch management, remote control, remote updates (no interruption to end user) and Imaging. There is so much more we can do but we have just started using ManageEngine Endpoint Central and I am finding new things every day that I can use it for. I have even used it to remotely run scripts via command prompt and Power Shell.
Pros
- We set alerts when a devices gets low on disk space. That is automatic and creates a ticket in ME SDP. We are then able to Add space to a VM Desktop, and then go thru ManageEngine Endpoint Central to extend the drives so the entire process can be done without interruption to the end user.
- Using the patch scans we can easily see what patches have been installed for all manufacturers not just Microsoft, without having to physically go to the device. It also allows us to choose which patches we want to push out and automate the process so we can be hands off, freeing up out time for other things.
- Remote access to devices. This allows us to remotely make changes, not just via remote control but also make registry changes and clean up space without going to the device and without interruption to the end user.
- Alerts. We have set up to get email alerts when new hardware is plugged into any computers. This lets us know if someone is bringing in un-authorized equipment (thumb drives, hubs, etc) to better manage what is/is not on our network.
Cons
- So far the only thing I have come across that I would like to see added/improved, is the space on the devices. Specifically, I would like to see something similar to TreeSize that will scan the drives, and list out in a tree format, how much space is being used by each folder and file. This would allow us to know if they simply need a bigger drive (for physical devices) or more space (for VMs) due to the applications they use or if they are saving things on their computers instead of on the network.
- We are a small/mid size company of 125 people. Just in the last month I have been able to easily save 25-30 hours of my time and 15-20 hours of end users time by being able to remotely manage devices. This was all just on space issues for VMs and a few laptops.
- While we are not a large company we do still have over 300 devices. With ManageEngine Endpoint Central scanning we are better able to track what is where and it also scans what is attached to each device. If a disaster came thru, this would be a huge help in knowing who was using what and where if there were any questions based on inventory alone.
- Creating images that can be pushed out to devices is needed more than you would think. It is very helpful when someone needs a new device as we are able to quickly push out the image rather than spending a day (and sometimes more) to set up devices individually.
From the few that I have used, and the ones I researched, I like the fact that there are many other ManageEngine products that all link together to build a fantastic tool kit for IT. Also, I have found that the few times I have had problems, their support has been very responsive and always helped me to get thru any issues I had (which were usually user (meaning me) error.
