Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use ADManager Plus to perform bulk imports and modifications of Active Directory accounts. ADManager Plus is chock-full of tools that you'd think Microsoft would include out of the box, but after 25+ years of Active Directory, it's clear they have no interest in doing so. ADManager Plus fills all the gaps left by Microsoft. Simple mass imports with automatic OU assignments, mass changes to existing accounts, etc. Some of this can be done through PowerShell, sure, but this makes it easy.

Pros

  • Mass imports with automatic OU assignments.
  • Mass changes to existing accounts.
  • Reports on Active Directory accounts.

Cons

  • More modernized interface.
  • Better assistance on functionality.
  • AI assistance.

Return on Investment

  • Huge saving of time.
  • Dramatic decrease in personnel needed to perform functions.
  • Cost savings versus the competition.

Usability

Automated Reporting on AD Changes

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to clean up and keep our AD clean. We had a very messy AD and we use it to create automated reports on changes to both computers and users and in particular to identify "stale" items. So now I get weekly reports and we are able to keep our AD in much better shape.

Pros

  • creation and automation of reports
  • tracking and reporting on machines that meet certain criteria
  • tracking and reporting on changes to users' ad settings

Cons

  • advanced features take a little effort. Not a lot of built in hand holding.
  • Update process is very manual, could use some automation
  • Some tasks are not intuitive, but if you put in the effort you are rewarded

Return on Investment

  • We have saved tens of hours in combing through AD Manually
  • We added the extra security layer of me getting automated reports on changes in AD that my subordinates are making.
  • The above two things made it much easier to define processes for machine lifecycles
