Miro is an amazing way to get a group of people to work on complex problems together.
Overall Satisfaction with Miro
My organization uses Miro for all of our workshop engagements with clients. We are a consulting company for strategic development and organizational and leadership coaching. Most of our workshop are virtual, but even for the in-person ones we use Miro as our workspace.
We create workshop spaces that have our lessons, reflections, exercises, small group activities. We teach all of our clients to use it and make them create accounts so we can see who is working where and track who does what work.

Pros
- Functionality can be as simple or complex as you want to make it.
- As the facilitator, I have so much control over what people can see and do. I can direct them to be where I want them to be.
- People can have their own experiences by customizing the way they use Miro.
- Miro has so many features, apps, and tools. I have yet to come across a situation where Miro isn't helpful for problem solving.
- The infinite space is amazing! It's so nice to be able to zoom in so small and only see a tiny portion of the work.
Cons
- Being able to unlock any amount of selected objects - not having to either unlock everything or all things you locked at once. Sometimes I just want to fix a few things in a section that is entirely locked down - often I'll see something I want to fix later in a section that I have people working in. So I have to unlock the entire section, and then quickly relock what they're working on so they don't mess up the base layer, and then go back, fix the object I need to fix and then relock it. That would be SO nice!
- Another thing that happens constantly is spaces that were locked down at a later time are unlocked. Or, within a session, all of a sudden, a space is completely unlocked that I have locked down, and a client is moving stuff all over. I have not been able to figure out how clients are moving things when they should be able to.
- Recently, the Miro board will just go completely black (this is in the app, I'm not sure if it happens on the web browser). It does eventually reload, but when this first started happening the Miro board would not reload without closing the app and reloading the whole thing.
- After the last major update in... September? Not sure what month that was, many of our clients would log into their accounts but they can no longer see their recent OR starred boards. It's just an empty profile. A few people have had their accounts restore and they can see them again, but many still cannot see recent or starred boards when they log in.
- Miro has made us able to do virtual sessions, which after COVID, is the majority now. It has expanded our reach and scope. It allows us to effectively and efficiently host our work anywhere.
- Internally, it is a place where we brain dump, and visually plan our process. It means we can see all the relevant information in one spot. We can organize massive amounts of information in one space and easily navigate it.
- It allows our clients to reference our work for years to come. We recently promised a client they could go back to this work for as long as they wanted. And then we joked that we don't control Miro so as long as Miro is running they can access the board.
It has been a complete game changer. Miro was the first online whiteboard and is still better than any others on the market. I know Microsoft has tried to duplicate what Miro offers, but I will never switch!
