Disappointed by the functional problems with Miro
Overall Satisfaction with Miro
My primary use case for using Miro is to create technical diagrams. These are network diagrams, systems diagrams and overall technology architecture diagrams. My secondary use case is for creating mind maps or other similar brainstorming when working with clients. The ability to share the diagrams is the key benefit.
Pros
- Sharing diagrams with others outside of my organization
- Creating different types of diagrams
- Providing templates to act as a starting point for a diagram
Cons
- The entire user interface needs to be rethought. I'm constantly hunting trying to find ways to perform the tasks I need to perform.
- Fix the layers functionality so that it works properly. I move an object to a specific layer and then some objects decide to move back to the default layer
- Make the hide/unhide layer functionality work. Sometimes all objects on a layer hide and sometimes only some objects hide/unhide
- I spend more time working on diagrams when I use Miro.
- I have an annual fee for using Miro as opposed to OmniGraffle which was a one-time purchase
I don't use Miro as an online whiteboard.
OmniGraffle is and probably will be my goto product for creating technical diagrams. There is a great ecosystem for obtaining shapes to use in diagrams and I can create my own shapes to reuse in other diagrams. The control through boards and layers is incredible and flexible. The user interface is well thought out, though can be complex.
Microsoft Visio is often considered to be the standard for creating technical diagrams and I have been using it since it was released. I typically don't work in Visio on a regular basis since moving to OmniGraffle. OmniGraffle can importand export .VSD and .VSDX files which allows me to provide Visio versions of diagrams for clients that do use Microsoft Visio.
