Miro - its like being back in the room together
Overall Satisfaction with Miro
As a consultant, I use Miro for mapping, planning, and general idea capture. As working from home is the new normal, I find it invaluable to be able to capture quick ideas and brainstorm with a team - similar to how we'd use whiteboards several years ago. I also like to use it in a more structured manner and have run many workshops moving from one section to the next in order to ensure that the flow of the meeting is planned and captured appropriately.
Pros
- Brainstorming
- User Flows
- Product Mapping
- Presentations
Cons
- Perhaps the ability to have the toolbar be more dynamic
- The UI is occasionally clunky - (I use Miro a fair bit, but sometimes others struggle to achieve tasks that should be more approachable)
- Enhanced 'diagramming' tools.
- Easier to brainstorm in the inception of a project
- Can often save time wasted in documenting decisions or work - provided you keep the boards legible
- It's allowed us to experiment with 'ticket free' refinements - allowing stories to be cultivated direct from the outputs of a session and therefore less likely to require additional tweaks.
As mentioned prior, with the right team and board, it can be almost like being in the same room. I find with a little planning, and a well structured board, it can even at times be more useful as you can more rigidly guide the attention of a session when using screenshare or similar.
Whilst I initially found that there was some parity between Miro and Mural, the iterations and updates since have found me favouring Miro a lot more. Whilst the templates available with Mural were incredibly useful, I find that the quality of life changes and UI / UX tweaks applied to Miro have made it my go to solution.
