Overall Satisfaction with Miro
My team uses Miro to brainstorm, document infrastructure architecture, discuss ideas, model database entities, and a lot more. Obviously Miro is amazing at process mapping, creating architectural maps, and data models but I believe the most underrated use for Miro is just getting ideas out of your head and onto a system where you can discuss them with others. Of the many tools offered by my company, Miro is one of the most flexible and helpful to drive discussions and map and evaluate ideas.
Pros
- Mind Mapping
- Process Mapping
- UI wire-framing
- Relational Database Modeling
- Cloud Architecture Modeling
Cons
- I find it hard to remember where to find the icons for various cloud systems even though I use them regularly.
- Clicking and dragging sometimes malfunctions and I need to refresh the page. This happens rarely, though.
- Disciplined use of Miro has helped us reduce our product planning meetings by 30 minutes.
- It is also helping us to reduce the number of lost topics or issues brought up in random meetings or hallway conversations by giving our team a board to keep track of rumors, concerns, and work on the horizon but that we have no received an official request for yet.
The aspects of Miro that impact my day to day are really the foundations of what Miro is for. Sharing a board in real time, being able to leave comments and use sticky notes all make explaining difficult concepts so much easier. You know the expressions "explain it to me like I'm a 5 year-old" "draw me a picture?" Whenever I am in a situation like that, I go to Miro and literally draw a picture. And creating a "Common Room" for my team to keep track of all the random things we have questions about or rumors we have heard about what other teams are doing has really had an impact. When everyone is in a different timezone, communicating things that you know that other team members couldn't know is hard. A Miro board can be a place for that.
I am a believer that you should use the best tool for a given job. No tool can be all things in every situation. But Miro tends to be the place where almost everything starts. We need to map out an outline for documenting a new service? We start mind mapping in Miro. And its that way with most work. Miro has become the glue that binds many of our other business tools together.
