Overall Satisfaction with New Relic
We use New Relic for a wide range of monitoring and observability needs. We don't just gather system metrics, but also performance metrics and customer experience data from many different applications. Our ability to reference data collected from any number of systems has proven to be an invaluable troubleshooting tool. It also helps us with plotting growth, and planning for future capacity.
- Monitoring of system metrics
- Collection of performance data related to applications
- Collation of various data collected from a variety of sources
- There could be an improvement of the agent's ability to collect certain application information
- Depending upon the amount of data stored in New Relic, storage costs are little higher than I would've expected
- New Relic has proven to be a valuable partner in achieving our performance and future planning goals.
We use New Relic on a regular basis for providing application performance data that has helped quickly and easily address performance issues. Troubleshooting with New Relic allows us to zero in on the root cause much more quickly, and to achieve faster repair time, when incidents occur.
New Relic has helped reduce risk during migration of apps from on-prem to the cloud by providing excellent before and after performance monitoring data. That has allowed us to rapidly deploy updates to correct any issues caused by the migration.
New Relic has helped our organization improve deployment cycle times, providing performance monitoring that allows us to measure any impacts (negative or positive) as a result of new code releases. This gives us greater confidence in deployments and allowed us to reduce time between deployment cycles.
We selected New Relic because we were more readily able to send metrics and performance data to one centralized location, and perform a variety of visualization and correlation tasks in a single location, with a single application.
Do you think New Relic delivers good value for the price?
Are you happy with New Relic's feature set?
Did New Relic live up to sales and marketing promises?
Did implementation of New Relic go as expected?
Would you buy New Relic again?
New Relic does an excellent job of generating visualizations of your data, and providing dashboards of that data. There are a number of instances where we've had to write our own scripts to generate content sent to New Relic because the agent doesn't natively understand certain applications, logs, etc.
Using New Relic
500 - New Relic is used as the primary monitoring/alerting/observability product across our enterprise. Most users represent a wide number of business functions, from platform and application management, security, to product development. The New Relic data provides opportunities for a range of APM and Infrastructure uses. It is used by a large number of teams on a daily basis.
5 - Ideally you would want to have a team of people with a variety of skills, but those with knowledge of the servers and applications being monitored provide the best service. A team with a deep background in server, network, and application monitoring helps as well. You'll want a team that is both technical, and has good communications skills.
- Infrastructure Monitoring
- Application Performance Monitoring
- Observability tie in with Big Panda
- Cross referencing Infrastructure and Applications, for better root cause analysis
- Providing the opportunity to share data across teams and applications
The only issue that we have had with New Relic is that the price might be a little expensive for smaller companies. The amount of data you store in New Relic impacts the cost, and can get away from you if you don't work closely with the vendor. Overall though the application is top notch.
