Overall Satisfaction with The Okta Identity Cloud

Okta Single Sign-On was integrated with a new application that was custom developed for the graphics department at a major broadcaster's enterprise. Okta was integrated as the top layer of security to eliminate credential reauthentication as the new system was being accessed by over 200 people with various levels of authority and access boundaries. It saved time with the helpdesk requests and provided easy and fast access to multiple areas of the system for the authorized personnel.
  • Reporting features for Okta have significant advantages over its competitors with detailed reporting for each user and access log.
  • Ability to integrate multiple identity providers.
  • Directory Integration: Okta's ability to configure the master/universal directory that can be set and switched at will is great as it doesnt require separate system updates.
  • Hardware Integration with devices that are on premises requires separate hardware upgrade that can be quite expensive depending on the number of devices required.
  • Price : Okta is great for large enterprises, but small to medium sized companies wouldnt be able to afford the high cost.
  • Company doesnt provide different levels of services that can be added or deleted depending on the needs of the organization.
  • High ROI as it eliminates need for multiple help desk personnel who were required to reset passwords or help users with access issues.
  • OKTA provides detailed reporting that can be an efficient use for HR to track the productivity as well as access logs for the managers
  • Okta provides an added layer of security to systems that makes the managers feel safer with confidential material access.
Okta single sign-on provided better functionality with a higher variety of directory integration that was important for our particular organization with multiple user directories being accessed by various departments.
Cost was another factor for our selection as some other authentication programs were priced much higher than OKTA without the functionality that our organization needed for the new system upgrade.
Okta is excellent for large enterprises that require an added level of security of all their system accesses. Okta's single sign-on improves productivity for the company as it eliminates the need for constant helpdesk password resets. Okta is particularly well suited to organizations that have authorization hierarchy and require various levels of authorizations and access for its users. Okta isn't really for medium to small businesses with a small number of users as the initial integration as well as the monthly recurring costs can add up pretty fast.

COVID-19 Response

Every employee was asked to work from home initially when the Covid Pandemic started. There were many employees who had never setup their home offices as well as the ability for them to access their work computers remotely. There was no way for them to access the Network drives remotely. Our IT department had to work around the clock to get everyone setup using Citrix and VPN setups. Since we have Okta authentication, we had to make adjustments using our Active Directory to ensure that every employee was able to access without disruptions.
We have trusted Okta for our security measures since last year when we installed Okta MFA on our Portals. We have a setup of accounts expiring automatically after 60 days of inactivity and 90 days of accounts being deleted with no-activity. With Covid a lot of our daily access to portals were interrupted due to centers being closed and the access to portals through Okta not being required. SO a lot of accounts were disabled. However granting access to those accounts was really easy and secure using Okta.
Our business has external partners that need to access our Portal. We have has centers in many countries around the world. With offices all around the world being closed. Many people switched working from home without their regular work computers. Many had to connect into their work computer using VPNs or Citrix kind of services. Okta was seamless in providing authorized access to all these external companies.
