Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Database

At Florida State University we use Oracle databases as the primary data storage facility. We have migrated away from IBM DB2 and mainframe systems. Oracle 12c is the latest version that is currently used for our production environment. Being the central IT department for the entire university we use Oracle databases for storing all student, faculty and staff records.
  • Being an Enterprise Database system, Oracle provides a wide range of usage. It is highly configurable and allows well for scalability.
  • In an Enterprise environment Oracle databases provide full access control and audit trails, thereby ensuring system integrity.
  • It fully supports standard SQL and PL syntax making it easy for developers to create their own triggers and stored procedures.
  • Auto generating POJOs from the database schema would be a great help for developers.
  • The Admin console for the database can be greatly improved by allowing customizable dashboards.
  • Moving away from a third party vendor for our storage requirements has had a great impact in terms of budgetary savings.
  • We house the databases ourselves and can easily maintain and update them based on our own internal schedules.
The database meets all our primary data storage needs. It performs basic CRUD operations very efficiently and allows for Business Intelligence tools like Oracle BI to be easily integrated into it as well.
