Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Database

We are currently using the Oracle Database as a backend support for the client websites developed at the workplace. The clients are financial institutions all around the world so we have different data centers to ensure high availability. We also use Oracle to keep backups of the data in case of any disasters, so that the vital data could be recovered efficiently. A lot of departments are using Oracle in the company including developers, QA analysts, and the customer support team.
  • Robustness, the way it handles relational databases as well as other services required for a fault-tolerant database environment.
  • Consistency, the reliability of the fact that data is being consistently stored in each transaction.
  • Ease of configuration.
  • Integration with third-party applications.
  • It is pretty expensive, it makes more sense to buy this product if you have a lot of transactions per second.
  • Integration with Microsoft technologies is not as good as Microsoft SQL servers.
  • Other then these, I cannot think of any other areas that require improvements.
  • It is agile, consistent and robust, therefore it has only brought back good returns to the company.
  • Added more reliability to the overall work process of the company.
  • NO negatives, as far as I can think of.
We compared Oracle Database with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database seemed to have the following advantages:
1. Better data security
2. Advanced analytic platform
3. Better integration with third-party tools
4. Better performance
Before switching to Oracle Db, make sure that you have a good knowledge of databases, as hiring a new person for this job would be expensive and the tool itself is pretty expensive. Oracle cost model is very complicated so it is worth it to spend some time talking with an Oracle Account Manager and doing some research to find out what is the best to fit your needs and reduce the cost of ownership.
