Used them for transactional workloads for some of the biggest workloads , for storing customised application data in clinical research , in analytical workloads in clinical field , as a repository for security related alerts , I have used it in for one of largest fuel company for handling transactional and analytical workload .

Pros

  • Performance
  • Highly scalable using RAC
  • Supports wide variety of formats and languages
  • Good back and recovery options
  • Variety variety of OS support

Cons

  • Patching and maintenance needs DBA experts
  • Setup and patching is time consuming
  • Higher cost wise
  • Scale when needed
  • Requires expert DBAs
It provides a wide variety of languages , recently it introduced support for Jason and graph database , in which it extends its capabilities in nosql format as well . This is well known for it’s RDBMS capabilities but this is new selling point for Oracle now , it even provides free APEX capabilities for developing lite weight limited sql applications
