Overall Satisfaction with PagerDuty
At Airfordable we use PagerDuty across the organization. Primarily it is our fail safe alerting tool to alert us if our system is not operating within bounds. However we also use PagerDuty to reach out to teams in times of urgent need so we are able to respond and act quickly.
Pros
- Alerts individuals in a timely manner
- Supports multiple communication mechanisms
- Does not fail to do its job
Cons
- The organization of settings can be confusing.
- How they structured their paid tiers can be frustrating.
- Helped us respond quickly to site issues
- Helped us address urgent user issues quickly
- Has kept downtime to a minimum and prevented downtime
Absolutely we have benefited from this. This is one of the key items that makes this alerting service worth its weight. Because they guarantee and deliver a 0 downtime experience, we can trust them to alert us when needed. That is a key foundation with a service like this.
Honestly, we have not used a lot of them because we funnel a lot of our alerts through Datadog and then on to PagerDuty. In reality, PagerDuty acts as a failsafe extension of Datadog when it comes to needing to alert us.
If one of our genies (customer service) is unable to use a critical feature within the site or is unable to do their job due to a bug, then they will click a special alert button that will find the engineer on call and rope them in to solve the problem immediately.
We do not use PagerDuty analytics.
Compared to the companies listed above, PagerDuty was always the stronger contender combined with Datadog. Though now the playing field may have changed since we last did any serious evaluation. PagerDuty has no downtime and "just works". That last phrase is what makes it stand out from the others.
