Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server

Parallels RAS is used to provide remote access to our business applications for remote users, contractors, and consultants. It has been used by the whole organization, however, it has been utilized the most by dept. which outsources most of their functions to a 3rd party such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing. The application addresses the issue of offering a standard and easy way to access our business applications in a secured and controlled environment for remote users.
  • Redundant of publish and gateway servers.
  • Offers many ways to publish an application.
  • Load balancing to improve performance.
  • Secure access with SSL and integrated AD authentication.
  • SSL certificate need to manually import - automatic would be nice.
  • Lack of integration with VDI clustering vendors such as VMware, HyperV.
  • SSO with SAML or other technologies.
  • Low cost compared to others on the market.
  • Easy to implement and maintain.
We have evaluated other similar products on the market and based on the cost, how the product will be implemented, and features and functions, we chose Parallels.
The Parallels Remote Application Virtual Desktop and applications from RDS and VDI are the key features in our decision to choose this product. Parallels RAS is very intuitive and easy to maintain in the central console where you can push and configure VDI agents and publish your application or desktop in a minute and in one place.
The HTML5 not only offers a richer content for mobile users, it also provide an agentless access for desktop users who are using public PC which does not have agent or client software installed.
One of the most compelling reasons for us to choose Parallels was that it supports many different technologies including MS HyperV, VMware, and other hyper-converged. Similar to others in the same industry, although we have used VMware as our backbone, we also use MS HyperV in our infrastructure and with the supporting of both products in Parallels, it offers us a flexibility with migrating and moving our Parallels deployment from one to another environment.
Parallels Remote Application Server provides a nice integration with Windows Active Directory which is the key identity of our organization. This integration helps us to simplify the control of user access to our app based on the pre-established AD groups that we already have. Also, with multi-factor authentication and SSL encryption, RAS adds another layer of secure access to our application and data.
Parallels support offers many way to support their customers. We can call support number, email technicians, or create a web-based ticket. I found most of the time, their technicians responded to my issues in a timely manner. Their technicians' technical knowledge is also adequate to solve most of my issues. I also have the option to escalate my problem to my sales reps and they usually follow up to ensure my issue is resolved.

In a scenario in which you need to provide access to your business applications to remote users and you need a solution that can be deployed very quickly with easy maintenance and low cost, Parallels Remote Application Server is a perfect fit.

However, for remote access of computing resources such as CAD or CAM application, PRA may be not a good choice.
