Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity

We use Paylocity for payroll, benefits, annual performance reviews, compensation and reporting. It addresses employee tracking, org chart, automating annual performance reviews, we used to do them all in word docs or excel. I would say that our primary use is running payroll, Paylocity takes care of state tax filing which is very nice because we are an entirely remote company and we have employees located in about 13 different states which can be a lot to manage.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • Automation
  • Extensive knowledge base

Cons

  • Compensation data
  • Nicer employee profiles where you can upload documents, enter variable compensation and annual bonus
  • More customizable performance reviews, it is not easy to use
  • Reduced time processing payroll
It has saved me time in the HR capacity. Also the knowledge base is very helpful. The integrations that we have with our retirement vendor and with the benefits system is incredibly helpful in saving time and making sure there aren't errors when it comes time for open enrollment and payroll.
We already have an employee recognition system that we use through Teams so we don't actually use these functionalities. I wouldn't be opposed to getting these set up but just has not been a very high priority and we do not have a dedicated account manager that I can ask for help with this.
We moved from ADP Workforce Now because it was incredibly painful to use on the administrative side and did not have as many features to use outside of running payroll and even that was not fun to do, it was easy to make errors or have errors occur without any way of figuring it out besides calling Support and when I had to call the Support line I would sit on the phone for 3+ hours and sometimes would be bounced around to different departments before I could get to someone who knew what they were talking about.

Do you think Paylocity delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Paylocity's feature set?

Yes

Did Paylocity live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Paylocity go as expected?

No

Would you buy Paylocity again?

No

Paylocity is not a bad option for a smaller-mid size company but if you are in the smaller size range, you do not have a dedicated account manager which makes it tricky to use all the features, etc. to the best of it's capability. I am a department of one so it not always feasible for me to sit and take the time to do all the trainings and read all those articles to learn the different capabilities. When we rolled out the annual review process, it was a little clunky and confusing. We did integrate with our 401(k) vendor and that has been convenient with only one hiccup so far. The 360 integration with bswift is also very nice, makes enrollment for employees easy.

Using Paylocity

55 - All business functions across the organization, we have Engineers, Product, Sales, Marketing, IT, Infrastructure, Security, Accounting, Finance, Client Success, Customer, Communications and Executives. All employees and managers are on Paylocity with their own log ins, they also have access to the app. Otherwise we have a handful of individuals who are administrators for Paylocity.
1 - We are a small company, I am an HR department of one so I am the only one who manages paylocity, getting it set up, helping with employees questions, processing payroll, managing performance reviews, pulling reports for various departments, managing employee information and updates and trying out different features to see what will work for us.
  • Payroll
  • Benefits
  • Employee Management
  • Compensation market data
  • Creating a pay structure
  • Recruiting and hiring
We will stay with Paylocity because the price makes sense for us and while it is not perfect, it works for what we need and it is far too painful to make a change with payroll vendors.

Evaluating Paylocity and Competitors

Yes - We replaced ADP. It was miserable to use and when there were issues (and their often were) I would have to call their support line and sit on the phone for 3+ hours.
  • Ease of Use
We needed something that was easier to use and had more features as well as a better support team
I think I would've liked to play around with the system a little bit more so I had a better idea of what it was like.
