"Flashy" Next Level Deduplication and Performance with the FlashArray
Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray
The FlashArray is being used across our entire environment/organization. Internally, and customer clouds as well. Atmosera is a cloud service provider of both Private and public cloud offerings. We utilize the FlashArrays for our private cloud offerings, selling datastore volumes as managed storage. The FlashArray allows us to be scalable in our internal infrastructure, while also offering the huge benefits of Flash storage. The FlashArray fleet we have also given us a single vendor infrastructure, which eases management.
Pros
- The Pure Array is scalable (easy to add more storage, easy to split up/provision existing storage).
- The Pure Array handles deduplication and compression better than any storage array I've worked with.
- Pure Support is very knowledgeable and responsive to issues and questions.
- The Pure Web GUI is very intuitive and easy to use.
- VM Analytics is a great and easy to enable feature.
Cons
- While the GUI is easy to use, some management features are only available in the CLI.
- The Pure arrays allowed us to consolidate from over 30-40 mixed vendor arrays to under 10 flash arrays, saving costs on support contracts.
- The Pure Arrays allowed us to offer modern, high tier storage offerings to new and existing customers, making us look more attractive to new customers and also increase contract spend on existing customers.
- The Pure Arrays allowed us to simplify our infrastructure offerings and allowed more employees to be able to effectively maintain the hardware.
Although more expensive, the FlashArray's performance, dedupe, simplicity of configuration, and support all blow the other arrays out of the water.
I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with the techs at Pure Storage, and they've been plenty helpful and supportive (both the techs and our dedicated engineers). Our experience with the FlashArray has been nothing but pleasant.

There was a situation where one of our customers was facing serious latency issues that was traced back to the storage array, and we were unable to figure out why. From everything we can tell the configurations were all correct and the issue seemed to have come out of nowhere.
We created a case with Pure and they quickly identified the issue was due to debug being enabled on the interfaces, so the support engineer was able to disable it himself and walked me through cycling the cables to reset the interface.
