Very good accounting package
Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise tracks data, very well. It's generally stable, crashes can usually be attributed to a network interruption or some other machine error. The data file updates with each transaction, so if there is a crash, it's not necessary to go back and see what transactions have to be re-entered. The reporting is quick, easy, reliable. It's keyboard friendly, so in most cases, the use of a mouse is not required.
Pros
- Generally, a mouse is not needed!
- Updating as each transaction is posted means, in the event of a crash, power failure, whatever; all the posted transactions are securely in the data file and can be pulled up on another computer, if the computer being used crashes.
- Reporting is generally user friendly, in that one can see the desired results by setting a few parameters for the report.
Cons
- They could go further with reporting, by making more options available in a given report format.
- They could bring the price down.
- They could make it easier to open multiple companies at once.
- With QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise we can keep up with our accounting internally and don't have to take it to a CPA firm every month.
- Payroll is also able to be done internally and we don't have to hire a payroll service.
- When we need information, it is available to us so management decisions can be better informed.
I used QuickBooks Desktop in the 1990s with a very small company. I then moved to a larger company and brought it in almost immediately. In 2000 I moved to a larger company, used QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise again and at each level, the software has been proficient and now with a company with 20 times the revenue and 5 times the staff, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise still handles everything required of it.
Each time I've set up QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise the process has been straight-forward and intuitive. The amount of setup time is dependent on familiarity and volume of information. The first time I used it, I was in a very small company and the setup was simple. After that, with familiarity with the product, it was only a matter of inputting the required information to give the software a basis from which to work. So, the setup process is pretty simple but there may be a lot of information to input to allow it to work.
With QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise information is available for taxes, history, customer disputes, vendor disputes, anything that comes up. I have yet to run into a situation where a check we've written, an invoice we've paid, a bill we've sent, an internal transfer we've made has not been available for viewing, when required.
QuickBooks seems to be more focused on the accounting side of the business than FreshBooks. I've also tried Peachtree software. Peachtree seemed more restrictive. The user had to adapt their procedures to the methods of the software rather than the reverse. I tried Peachtree a number of times but always came back to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
