Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Rubrik for all backup/restore purposes for the University staff and students. We have started to use threat protection as well.

Pros and Cons

Almost instant VM mounting
Clear interface to view compliance
Auto discovery of new VMs added to environment

Unable to pause individual VM backups
No auto-discovery of SQL hosts
Reporting of failures can be very vague

Return on Investment

Massive reduction in administration time
Fear of change as any new product will bring
Very positive perception in company due to very minimal failures compared to previous product(s) used

Alternatives Considered

Veeam Backup & Replication

Rubrik is a lot more intuitive and easy to integrate all aspects of our disparate hybrid environment, into a single pane of glass.

Other Software Used

Apptio Cloudability, Microsoft 365, vSphere

Of the many different technologies I have used over the years, I would say this is the best but does come at a premium cost. I would certainly recommend a VMware environment over Hyper-v. If vms migrate between clusters in Hyper-v they will be treated as relics, that is my only real complaint.

Don't backup, go forward!
