Sage Intacct Is My Go-To Software For Accounting Needs
Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
We use Sage Intacct for all our accounting and finance needs. We love that it is in the cloud, and all of our division leaders have their own custom dashboards so they can monitor their revenue and expenses in real time. This allows them to make better and informed decisions about their budgets. They have access to their data 24 hours a day. We also use it for all invoice approvals and allows us to have a record of those approvals. All of our reports come directly out of the system, so there is no need to use Excel or other software to manipulate reporting.
Pros
- Financial reporting is stellar
- Dashboards are a must have
- Invoice and payment approvals are flawless
Cons
- My employee users need to be able to print dashboard reports on demand - that is missing
- One of my department heads wants an app version for easier invoice approval while he travels
- Maybe make reporting a little more straightforward with account groups
- The availability of data in real-time has helped with better decision making
- Instead of dealing with paper invoices, we can get department head approvals electronically
- We were able to get rid of an on-site server for the old accounting system - glad to be in the cloud
As a CFO, my core job is to ensure that we automate and streamline as many processes as we can. We have a very intricate accountability structure for our government grants of restricted funds. That was a huge consideration when choosing software. Sage was able to accommodate this requirement for us with the accounts payable module. The way we code expenses and track our restricted spend, the GL allowed us the ability to set things up that met all of our needs.
We use project accounting that allows us to track various advertising campaigns, DEI spend, events, etc. We like to track everything we can so we have good data. We love the way project accounting works. We also have multiple entities, and it is easy to set up other companies (we have a foundation) that allow intercompany transfers as needed.
I hated Great Plains - it did not have integrated financial reporting. It also reminded me of accounting software for a manufacturing plant. As a nonprofit, it had way too much "stuff" that was not relevant to nonprofit accounting. I never could understand why it had completely different software for its reports. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. It also relied too much on Excel. Excel should not be crucial to operate your accounting software. It's good for manipulating numbers when you need to do something specific for one time, but Excel should be an extra tool. I've also used Sage BusinessWorks, which was a pared down version of Intacct. I liked it though for the small nonprofit I used it at.
