Overall Satisfaction with SAP Analytics Cloud

We purchased SAP Analytics Cloud to serve as our main user-facing analytics solution - so Excel based analysis and data visualizations via SAC "stories." It was meant to replace legacy systems of SAP's Analysis for Office and potentially Tableau.

Pros

  • Excel connector and analysis
  • Speed
  • Ease of use on the excel side

Cons

  • Stories have a steep learning curve to build
  • Stories aren't as user friendly or "pretty" as we would've liked
  • Licensing is in a transition and a bit confusing right now with BDC
  • This has been more of a maintenance project for us, so it was a necessary replacement for the deprecated SAP tool we were using prior.
  • Time savings and ease of use have been the biggest positive impacts.
It's "alright" is my feeling, and SAP likes to remind us that the ease of integrations between all their tools is the biggest win - the individual tools evaluated on their own never seem to be "best in class."
SAC is an extension of our decision to use Datasphere as our Data Warehouse / Data Fabric Solution, which is really an extension of our decision to use SAP as our ERP.

Do you think SAP Analytics Cloud delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with SAP Analytics Cloud's feature set?

Yes

Did SAP Analytics Cloud live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of SAP Analytics Cloud go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy SAP Analytics Cloud again?

Yes

If you're on SAP, I think it's kind of a no-brainer to go down the BDC path which includes Datasphere and SAC. For what we need it for (excel based analysis) it's a big upgrade compared to what we were doing before. But we won't be replacing Tableau any time soon.

Using SAP Analytics Cloud

25 - Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Intelligence, and Operations.
5 - Our Business Intelligence team supports the roll-out and training of SAP Analytics Cloud, including building the models that are available within it via SAP Datasphere. Our IT team supports from an operations / functionality standpoint, as well as negotiating pricing and setup with SAP. We do still work with a group of consultants as well, as we're fairly new to SAC.
  • A replacement for BEx queries via Analysis for Office (SAC Excel add-in)
  • A way for end-users to quickly do analysis and build stories on our SAP Datasphere analytical models.
  • We are exploring other use cases such as Planning/Forecasting and as a Dashboarding replacement for Tableau.
  • To manage a complicated Supplier Rebate process
  • To explore a detailed view of Customer Profitability
  • Planning - as a replacement for OneStream
  • Dashboarding - as a replacement for Tableau
  • As a replacement for PowerBI
We don't really have much choice given what we've invested into SAP Datasphere and that BEx queries via the Analysis for Office Excel Add-in are deprecated. I still don't believe it's best-in-class at much, and maybe that's because it's trying to do too many things, but for our purposes, mainly the Excel add-in use case as a front-end for Datasphere, it works well.
