Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Organizing and connecting a company of about 60 people. We use it for quick DMs, fun, progress reports, review, and creating different channels for teams to break off into with specific projects. It's an easy way to communicate as efficiently as a text thread, while keeping all work-related communications silo'd to the one app, so notifications can be turned on and off, depending on the time or day.

Usability

It's very easy to use, and has proven valuable in every context I've used it, but there's always room for improvement. From my standpoint, customizing your notification settings and being able to search messages with keywords or finding all communications between me and a certain person would be very helpful, as my main challenge has been having my conversations fractured by someone asking me a question in my DMs, then asking a follow up question in a channel, then responding to another person in a group chat, etc.

It works extremely well for a company of 10, which is where I became acquainted with the app. It kept us organized and kept conversations about various things separate so we didn't get our wires crossed.

With a company of about 60-80ish, it can get a little more difficult to stay organized, since there are dozens of channels I'm a part of, and I can be having one conversation with the same person across a number of different channels, and miss or misunderstand certain messages.

The same thing that makes Slack great for small businesses has proven to be a small challenge for a larger company.
