Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Slack is for clear communication that doesn't get lost in an inbox. While email has become easier to navigate with AI writing the messages, it can still become a mess once many emails start to flood in. With Slack, it's easy just to stick to the messaging for quick replies. It also helps with group chats rather than emails with several CCs.

Big group chats- it just becomes a mess.
Notification method- the pings and jumping Slack icon is over the top.
I will always hate the online/offline status.

Return on Investment

Positive in that messages don't get lost in email, and you are more likely to get a response from someone.
The online/offline green light can become a bane of existence. Would prefer email-level online/offline anonymity.
Externally, you are still communicating through email.

Usability

In dark mode, it's easy to navigate, and AI agents have made things much easier, though.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft Teams and Zoom Phone

Slack > Teams, but if a company's infrastructure is Microsoft, you have to use Teams. Slack + Zoom has been a good combo for chat + calls.

Better than Microsoft Teams for sure, no one uses Huddle, so you are less likely to be called through the app. I think it's better for 1 1 or smaller group chats (like with your immediate team) rather than bigger groups, as it just becomes too many notifications, reaction emojis, and a bother to read. AI agents writing messages for you will ALWAYS be welcome, whether that be email or Slack. You always sound politer, too.
