Use Cases and Deployment Scope

At my organization, we utilize Slack to communicate cross-team, department, and connecting to other Slack communities to communicate with clients. We've also integrated Slack with other task tracking tools like: Airtable, JIRA, IT Ticketing Systems, ect. It's used company wide.

It's a communication tool, status update tool, and project tracking tool.

Customization of the instance to your needs

Allow for communication in multiple ways (text, video, images)

Cons

Some connections are delayed by 1-2 hours
Organization of Slack channels
Notifications on desktop are for all communities instead of the focus one

Usability

I love Slack! It doesn't require much training, it's tools are very intuitive. Slack is constantly updating it's interface without interrupting it's core functions. It makes any UX/UI updates known and provides training so no one feels lost.

Text, video, and co-working tools are just a click away and easy to understand how to correct problems.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Teams Rooms and Skype (discontinued)

Slack's UX is more 'fun'. It uses bright colors and fun verbiage to encourage communication with team-mates in new ways.

Best Suited: Remote workers that need to have quick comms with their teams. As a remote worker, Slack'ing with other coworkers is so quick & seamless - I feel like I'm at the office!

Less Appropriate: High-security teams. With the connections there is a higher risk for leaking information via tool connections, communities, ect.
