Overall Satisfaction with Slack
I use Slack in an organization I am a part of. We have committees, sub-committees, and a general board, amongst other different groupings of volunteers which all need to communicate amongst themselves independently and as well as on an all-inclusive level. We use Slack in the planning of large conventions, but find it so helpful and useful during the commission of these large-scale conventions and all the events and meetings that take place during the conference. This allows for us to communicate with several people without asking them to disclose their personal phone number but while still allowing them quick and easy access to this communication from their cell phones.
Pros
- Allows for the upload of documents, like maps, registration forms, etc.
- Allows for grouping and sub-grouping of users for the purposes of communication.
- Alerts the user(s) to new messages and ongoing communications.
Cons
- Battery usage. For my purposes we use this app non-stop over several weeks and constantly over the course of a 5-day period. The amount of battery usage it takes, makes it difficult to move from event to event within the convention without having your charger strapped to your person.
- Using this product for a completely self-supporting self-help group, I find the product is of great value and works for what we need at little to no cost at all for our self-help anonymous organization.
