Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop

Splashtop is used in two scenarios: 1) to give access to individual users to office PCs when employees are working remotely, and 2) give tech support vendors and consultants access to servers. Splashtop not only gives remote access, though, it provides the ability to seamlessly see and fully utilize multiple screens (up to 4 being used by a user).

Pros

  • It is incredibly helpful that Splashtop allows users connecting remotely to be able to see the screens of the local PC or remote PC on a screen-by-screen basis, to toggle between the two.
  • The speed and quality of Splashtop's connection allows users to be able to play video on the remote PC and be able to see it, and hear it, clearly on the remote PC.
  • Splashtop allows you to either see the remote PC's multiple screens on different remote PC screens, or all of the remote PC's screens in a single window on the remote PC.

Cons

  • It would be helpful if all software components of the Splashtop connection (streamer and receiver, etc.) would be updated in a single process.
  • For some reason, the icons for set up remote PCs are not always accurately lit up when they are powered on and available to connect to. It is deceiving when they are dim, making you think they are off, when they are really on and available.
  • When setting the view of the host computer to be window per screen, it would be helpful if the windows on the remote computer would by default be organized in the same configuration as they exist physically on the host computer.
  • With Splashtop, I have been able to save 2 hours of commute time per day, twice per week, without any compromise in productivity.
  • Using Splashtop's file transfer feature, I have been able to efficiently transfer files between the remote and host computer without wasting the time to upload them to a cloud folder and then download them.
  • Splashtop has been stable enough for me to participate in Zoom meetings on both host and remote computers, when working remotely, providing additional flexibility and being able to use both computers as connection points.
Splashtop support is very responsive and helpful, when it is necessary to contact support. Splashtop's FAQ pages are exceptional, though, sometimes making it unnecessary to contact customer support at all. Generally, the support Splashtop provides is outstanding.
Splashtop's security options cover all of the bases I can think of. At the same time, they provide the users with the flexibility to customize the settings to achieve the compromise between security and convenience that the users want. The deployment packages that Splashtop allows users to use in setting up remote computers make initial setup with default configurations as painless as it can be.
First, Splashtop makes a generous trial available for people interested to see how it works before fully signing up and subscribing. The FAQs, videos and step-by-step instructions make the initial setup very straightforward. Also, common issues/customizations to address firewall and server issues are prominently made available, so people in those situations do not have to hunt for them or contact support.
Yes - Citrix, SecureLink and zScaler RDP. Citrix was replaced as a remote connection option because of the expense and burden of maintaining the infrastructure necessary to support the connection. SecureLink would support multiple monitors, but the connection was not robust enough to provide the remote computer with a good quality view of the host computer and would not play video through the connection. zScaler RDP only supports one monitor, so it was a non-starter.

Would you buy Splashtop again?

Splashtop is by far the best solution I have tried for being able to see multiple screens remotely. The interface that Splashtop offers to see a remote computer is seamless and intuitive. It is also very reasonably priced, making it an option for organizations with only a few users who have the need for the functionality.
