Overall Satisfaction with Squarespace

I've managed and switched a number of clients from Squarespace. Although Squarespace is decent enough for a very, very simple website for someone that wants to DIY....it leaves a LOT to be desired with SEO, customization and customer service. Every client I've acquired that had a previous website with Squarespace ended up needing to be replaced with a better software.
  • I can admit that some of their templates are decent enough. (but I'm a firm believer in custom vs. templates.)
  • The builder does seam fairly user-friendly for a non-technical person to utilize.
  • Getting a very basic, simple website can be fairly quick to accomplish.
  • Customer service is lacking, greatly.
  • Customization is virtually non-existent and impossible to create a customized website with specialized needs.
  • Transferring out a domain is an ordeal.
  • Most clients find that their Squarespace websites don't do well in search ranking.
  • Anything beyond a very simplistic basic website isn't possible with Squarespace, causing many to switch from it in order to attain the results they want.
  • The lack of customer service makes it hard to resolve issues.
Squarespace can't even begin to compare against any of the other options, Squarespace is a very basic, simplistic, minimal webpage builder with no special features to create a truly outstanding website. An outstanding website that brings a company customers/orders requires a web designer/developer with marketing knowledge and a great software such as WordPress, Joomla or one of the many other great pieces of software out there.
For someone wanting a personal website, or a small business with no money for a marketing budget and want to DIY their website (but there are MANY reasons to not go this route) it's an ok option just take a moment to learn some marketing basics before doing so. Otherwise, for a professional website or a website that has e-commerce or other specialized needs, hire a professional web designer/developer!
