Overall Satisfaction with TriNet

We always get to the right answers; however, sometimes it takes longer to get there and additional resources need to be brought into the picture. It would be better if TriNet had experts in the areas of stock options, and severance that the CSRs could easily call upon.
The payroll processing software is very easy to use, especially where salary employees are involved. The reports are pretty good and I've never had to create a special report.
We use TriNet for payroll processing, HR consulting and benefits including health insurance and 401(k). We selected TriNet as the savings from their group health insurance plans more than offset the administrative costs, so it is like getting the entire package of services for free. We also like the convenience of having payroll, insurance, and 401(k) in one place.

Pros

  • It's great to have a dedicated service provider.
  • Although health insurance costs are going up every year, we feel strongly that our health costs are lower than we could get on our own.
  • I like not having to worry about the 401(k) plan in that payroll and the plan are linked.

Cons

  • We are a public company and have employee stock options. Our rep was not familiar with how they work or what needed to be done. It seemed as if TriNet should have a dedicated group of people who work on stock options.
  • We had a complicated severance package to an employee. Again, we felt like our rep needed lots of assistance in this area and a dedicated severance team would have been helpful.
  • We originally engaged TriNet in 2013 knowing from past experience that we would save more money in health insurance premiums to offset the costs.
  • The 401(k) plan has done very well for us. We have never had any complaints from our employees about money not being transferred timely to their accounts or complaints about the types of investment options.
  • We like the ease of use and that we don't need to spend a lot of time on payroll and payroll compliance.
TriNet is well suited for companies with staff up to 100. The health insurance savings completely justifies the cost of the program. It would not be appropriate for companies with union employees or that don't contribute, or only make small contributions, to employee health insurance costs as TriNet is geared to employers making substantial contributions to health insurance costs.
