Overall Satisfaction with IBM Turbonomic
We use VMTurbo Operations Manager across the organization in a small data center to load balance and facilitate better high availability than we can afford otherwise.
Pros
- Monitoring
- Load balancing
- Verifying server utilization
Cons
- It would be easier to use if it had a base setting and was able to make tweak suggestions as time progressed
- The storage management was difficult to get set up
- The rules were confusing for a first time user
- We were able to achieve a level of load balance and high availability that VMware wanted 25,000 additional dollars to replicate.
- I disagree with per socket pricing since I never fill that second socket.
Using IBM Turbonomic

Evaluating Turbonomic and Competitors
- Price
- Product Features
- Product Reputation
- Third-party Reviews
Functionality at the price point.
I would have evaluated a few other products but am very happy with this purchase.
None, I was unable to find anything comparable.
Turbonomic Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal - communication is key, vmturbo was non disruptive but concerns still needed to be alleviated.
- Initially it simply didn't function, tech support was valuable.
- Unable to connect with storage initially.
Turbonomic Support
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved Kept well informed No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
Not Sure
We had a time when an iscsi drive performed an unexpected restart and took down the entire system, when we finally got it back up VMTurbo wasn't functioning but support was able to get us back up and running quickly.
Using Turbonomic
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Well integrated Consistent Convenient | Unnecessarily complex Feel nervous using |
- Setting the load per server
- Setting the failover criteria
- The rules are overly complex and were left basically at default.
- Some of the terminology isn't intuitive although it's easy to find the answers.
