Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard AuthPoint

We use Authpoint to secure access to local PCs, Office 365 accounts, and remote access via VPN. It has addressed our need to provide additional security for user login.

Pros

  • App works first try always.
  • Excellent integration with AD and office 365.
  • Excellent support when required.

Cons

  • Easier 3rd party VPN integration would be nice.
  • Integration with 3rd party authenticator apps would allow users to simplify.
  • Securing our remote access has allowed us to save on our Cyber Insurance renewal for the year.
  • Dealing with compromised Office 365 accounts due to phishing has dropped to zero incidents this year from the average of 3 per year over the last few years.
  • Enabled us to loosen restrictions on rotating password policies and has drastically reduced helpdesk calls due to forgotten or expired passwords.
We have not deployed the Total Identity side of Authpoint yet; that is planned for 2025. However, we expect to be able to implement policies to curb the reuse of passwords.
We compared the cost of the bundle with the third-party password management product we had been testing. Not only was TIS less expensive overall, but it offered considerably more features for the money and reduced overhead due to a single subscription/vendor.
We have not deployed this aspect yet, but we are writing policies to integrate dark-web monitoring into our IT security handbook and HR team policies. We expect this to go live in 2025.
The biggest reason we selected Watchguard was support. We already use Watchguard firewall products and have received excellent support from our third-party vendor, Watchguard.

Authpoint is perfect if there are integrations for all the products you wish to secure. Unfortunately, if you have other products that can not integrate with Authpoint, you will need to run multiple authenticator apps. This is not the end of the world, but it could streamline things a little.
