This is a perfect solution for a large workforce with multiple moving departments. This allows for people to have access essentially 24/7 to some of their most commonly asked questions. The ability to track vacation time off, sick time, leave (parental/military/medical), and personal days is seamless. Another function our employees seem to like is the ability to track all of their work history in one place. There is a consistent timeline that lets them see where they have been and how they have progressed. With the addition of our leadership development schedule, it becomes very evident what their next step is

Pros

  • I liked the notification features of the payroll module, which helped ensure, that payroll was processed in a timely manner without missing any deadlines.
  • The features in the payroll module seem effective to ensure that no accidental erroneous data entry can take place by a payroll administrator.
  • The CRS system allowed us to generate consolidated payroll summaries for all of our foreign sales office which were very beneficial and useful for our Finance Department

  • Workday has a very responsive customer support staff.
  • Workday is very concerned about quality, and has put many checkpoints in place to ensure the product customers receive is built with the utmost precision.
  • Workday is great about giving customers what they want. They are continuously evolving, improving, releasing new functionality, and solutions each week, to meet the needs of their clients.

Cons

  • ADP Streamline billing is slow to react to company changes. Hence incorrect invoices from ADP Streamline were issued and it took a very long time to get their billing department to correct these and issue credit notes.
  • In the payroll system I missed not being able to obtain a per country headcount and payroll numbers. Once payroll is processed it goes directly into an archive and is not easily viewable. It would be nice to have more visibility of personnel and payroll data.

  • We are working to integrate with SAP payroll and there are challenges in mapping things like action/reasons and infotypes. This is in the details and it's where we are spending most of our time.
  • The product / methodology is light on documentation and this is difficult when it comes to communicating the changes to the business.

We have dubbed Workday the 'Georgetown Management System' or GMS for short. I expect Workday will be around for quite some time to come. I hope that we can continue our partnership with them to build a great product that will continue to serve higher education as well as the commercial space.

Overall this is a highly useable product. It does require continual use to stay current on changes in the User Interface and functionality, but as noted earlier, this is a reasonable trade-off for the rapid rate of improvement. It is very user friendly and the templated business processes prevents the system from becoming overly complicated

Workday is okay - it looks nice on the outside, but they still have some bugs to deal with in the software so that it is more user-friendly and functioning for customers.

From my perspective, the system runs like a well oiled machine and I have not had any issues with customers complaining about speed. If a report is taking long to run, the report can run in the background and you can go about your business. For larger enterprises, there is additional space and machines to process the application in what Workday refers to it as Extended Configuration Tenant

I cannot score as I have not attended. we sent our HR admin for on-site HCM training and 2 people for benefits admin training (build open enrollment etc.). Training on-site is $1800 for a course.

There are 11 different courses. They have on-demand training one hour sessions and host half day training sessions – e.g. report writing split across 2 half days, where you go into a classroom online instructor led. The online stuff is all provided by Workday.

It was implemented before my joining the company. At my last company, we used Workday professional services.

Based upon my experience at my last company, I would rate the implementation experience an 8/10. There are different ways to set things up and we had different people telling us different things. It set us back a couple of times.

Regarding configuration advice, we could set things up where every manager has supervisory organizations, or have it financially based i.e. aligned to cost center/department. We chose the individual manager path and I think we should have chosen a department route. Going down the individual manager path, to maintain the information, we have to inactivate a supervisory org whenever a manager changes/leaves.

Workday has released Financials and is continuing to develop it's Human Capital Management footprint with the addition of Workday Recruiting. I think customers will find that is easy to add on additional functionality in the system.Workday does make it easy for customers to make changes without relying on IT resources. The Business Process framework is a visual tool that allows functional resources to make changes and see the flow of the transaction
