Articulate 360

Articulate 360 is a powerful tool if you plan on teaching any topic. It can be as simple or complex as you like. You can create a Rise course which has videos, interactive Storyline content, quizzes, interactive images, buttons, and more. It's not necessarily suited for compliance training because it is hard to verify completion.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is great for schools who are invested in Google and are looking for an easy way to streamline assignments and work. Priding itself on simplicity, this is also great for elementary through middle school teachers and their students. Teachers can quickly send out assignments to students and manage student work via their school's Google accounts so students aren't going outside on the web as often. High Schools may want something a little more in-depth that has higher order activities within and allows the teacher to redesign their lessons.

Pros

  • I love the addition of Review. It allows us to send items to external customers for their review and feedback as well as allows me to comment back via one location. When you update and re-publish you can update the item they can see. I did stumble across the fact that if you have multiple people working on a project and they publish and send a link to the customer it is saved into their own 360 site. I need to explore this more to see if there is a way to make a collaborative site that two people can update to. If not, it is important to be aware that you need to send the updated links to your co-worker too or they won't see comments made on the newer items published by a different person. We ran into this because I had to go out of town and someone else had to help with some updates.
  • Storyline is something I have been using since it came out and wow, it has come a long way in a relatively short time. I have to say my favorite thing about the software though is the collaborative site to teach people on how to use it and to collaborate with others. It is unlike any other support/tutorial site I have ever used. I also like Storyline because it is robust but user-friendly. You can make very simple or very complex items based on your skill set. There is also a newly updated content library full of great resources to use in your training. I feel like the access to this has really opened up options for our training programs.
  • Another thing I really like it the ability to change your design view for PC to tablet to mobile...seamlessly. This is huge! As the world turns more to mobile learning this is a great way to see what you have done and how it will transfer between formats.

Cons

  • As I mentioned previously, I need to explore more, but it seems like Review should have some way to have a collaborative 360 place where a team can publish to so that there is one place for everyone to use.
  • Storyline gets better with each update and release. I have always wished for a little more flexibility or options in the animation area.

  • You must have a Google login, and some companies do not use this platform.
  • Sharing between classes can be easy, but editing posts and creating assignments are more difficult to change.
  • Moderating your content for students is easy, but moderating content that other collaborators share is not as easy.

This is only a product I would recommend to a humanities teacher. Math and science teachers cannot use this product the same way that I can as an English teacher. It is great for word process and for reading, but unable to handle the demands of math and science. Therefore, I would highly recommend this product to English or Social Studies teachers, but NOT math or science teachers

We have had very little trouble in accessing Google Classroom. Our issues, if any, have risen from our server and not the Google servers.

It was relatively easy to implement due to the simplicity of the platform. Even our more technology challenged teachers found it easy to get started with Google Classroom.

Alternatives Considered

We didn't look into much else as one of our customers was using Articulate and highly recommended it. It's been great for creation but the lack of included LMS is the sticking point.

A dedicated LMS is far more capable in providing control, customization, and analytics. Customer service from enterprise LMS clients also offers more options and support.

Return on Investment

  • We have seen many users take our eLearning or webinars and purchase many more training pieces.
Nicholas Messiah profile photo
  • Students are more willing to engage with one another through Google classroom because they are utilizing technology rather than paper and pencil.
  • Students are becoming better digital citizens by being mindful of what they post and what is posted by others.
  • Students can share thoughts, opinions, and perspectives they might not otherwise say out loud.
