Launching and executing a webinar is easy and takes literally five seconds. The entire user experience is virtually seamless, with a platform that's loaded with detailed statistics. You even have access to live online support that will assist you instantly (from your webinar room).

Skype

[Skype is] most suited for face-face communication that can't be had in person, great for teaching I have found and or meetings. Not so useful with those who are computer illiterate or have low internet skills, and groups of children

Pros

ClickMeeting

  • Professional Live Interface - One of the reasons we chose ClickMeeting was how professional it looked from the viewer's experience. Our client is very small, but the interface makes them look like a top-notch firm to viewers.
  • Customization - Our client didn't have to forego their brand for a service, they were able to make it work for them. Also ties in with my point above.
  • Easy Event Creation - Takes no time at all to plan/schedule an event or meeting.

Skype

  • Perfect for chatting via text. Has emojis, file sharing, audio sharing, and even video sharing capabilities.
  • Good for video chats. You can do 1 on 1 sessions with a good quality video.
  • Privacy is also another important function they have. They allow for private conversations between users.
  • Ability to delete conversations with sensitive information you may not want seen by users not authorized. Can share confidential information via Skype.
  • Customizable profiles to fit your company culture.

Cons

ClickMeeting

  • As with most new software, ClickMeeting did create a learning curve for many of the employees - thus training was necessary.
  • Our company is contracted by the Federal Government, thus a lot of our information needs to be kept private. Some of our high-level management have noticed that ClickMeeting only provides 128-bit AES encryption, which we feel can be improved upon.
  • Some of our remote users have found that ClickMeeting has some lag-time when using it on their android devices.

Skype

  • This is really small, but I'd love to see the emoticons updated to emojis.
  • Make calling free like some other communications app providers.
  • Grant the ability to not show that you're online even when you are. Sometimes you want to make a call, but you don't want other people to see you're online and start messaging you.

I think so far there is no reason not to renew the license. We have been using Skype for a long time and are very satisfied with it.

I am not aware of the current support level for Skype for business, as I have never used even though I have the product. However, the support for Skype's personal paid users is not where it could be. Users who pay for Skype features do not have a clear path to reach out to support. So, rating 6, can be better as soon as I need to use Skype for business support and get a good experience. I will say that I will renew Skype for Business subscription, which is a significant inconsistency on my end. The explanation is that Skype for Business comes bundled with Office for Business, with no additional cost, so why not.

Alternatives Considered

ClickMeeting

Vimeo is the closest competitor to our organization. Vimeo hosts our online video library and luckily, it communicates with ClickMeeting well. If the demand for live webinars no longer existed, Vimeo would be next in line. However, at this time ClickMeeting remains our #1 due to integration, ease of access and design.

Skype

We find Skype to be more user-friendly than Zoom, possibly because I personally have been using Skype for a lot longer and have become used to its functionality. I also find the video and sound quality to be better than Zoom. On a more personal note, I believe Discord has a better interface for regular messages and voice chats than both Zoom and Skype.

Return on Investment

ClickMeeting

  • It was an affordable software for what it delivered. We would have kept using it if the webinars had worked to drive business, or if we'd been able to drive more people to the webinars. Not ClickMeeting's fault. Great return on the investment in my mind.

Skype

  • Because Skype is free, it has had a positive impact on our business objectives. This year we had several budget constraints, and Skype allowed us to conduct important meetings with stakeholders for free.
  • Since the video / audio quality of Skype is not always very good, it impacts the efficiency of meetings. Meetings end up lasting longer if calls are dropped or if the audio cuts out repeatedly. Time lost on a Skype call equates to less research productivity, which negatively impacts the objectives of our research team.
  • The real-time screen sharing in Skype allows for members of my research team to quickly see results from collaborators in different institutions. Seeing results (either in plots or slide shows) rather then hearing about them is much more meaningful and helps us build on the work of our collaborators. This positively impacts our research.
