Cordial

Cordial has multiple options to create a message: single campaign, automation, orchestration and sculpt templates, which are drag-and-drop type functionalities but each of these blocks are based on HTML content so a user needs to be technically savvy. I would avoid using HTML includes as it is not possible to see which include a customer received. The team is fabulous, they know the tool and are dedicated to the success of the business. They are quick to respond and provide feedback. Reporting and analytics are very manual if you are combining multiple days in a test.

Sailthru

Sailthru is well suited for any company that is working with a large email subscriber list and needs to send campaigns on a daily basis. It is probably less appropriate for anyone with a small list, or an e-commerce brand. I think there are better ESPs out there for e-commerce brands.

  • Personalized content based on user behavior and content consumption.
  • Campaign workflow is very simple and allows for a large number of campaigns to be set up and managed in a short period of time.
  • Sailthru has a great customer service team. Our account support with Sailthru was top-notch and is a testament to the culture there at the company.
  • Sailthru focuses on email marketing. With all of the other "cloud" solutions out there trying to be everything to everyone, they lose focus on the importance of sending the email. This is where Sailthru shines.

  • Some of the tasks on the platform are still technical in nature and often requires the help of a developer or technical marketer. But I've witnessed great strides towards accessibility and ease of use for non-technical marketers over the past three years.
  • A lot of the templating must be built from scratch.
  • Deliverability insights (out of the box) could be expanded further.

  • Giving more practical examples of technical setups, sometimes the only way to understand it is to see it.
  • Can't filter lists by date created or date modified, particularly needed when tracking down a specific list or looking to remove older lists.
  • Can't set up automated data dumps to an email address, has to be sent via API.

The biggest factor is that even after two months of trying to go through their credit processes and getting the right consideration for the real damages we had with the tool not being able to send campaigns for days, their sales staff is still not willing to work with us on it, making us do the switch away from them right now. We got extremely disappointed by trying to work with them through those issues.

Their account management / sales staff doesn't seem to be taking the problems you experience very seriously - it took us 3 months and nudge emails to them every 2 weeks to ask for status updates (plus 6 different conversations with different people) to get a (very small credit) for a major issue, which in two months prohibited us from sending campaign emails for 2-3 days at a time.

Sailthru

Sailthru is much more robust and evolved than MailChimp. That's not to say that MailChimp wasn't a great platform for us, as it dramatically helped our business grow and it's a great resource that I'd recommend to any start-up. However, Sailthru offers a different ideology more centered around automated emails and working smarter over creating batch-and-blast emails. Sailthru also is much easier to analyze than anything associated with Mandrill

  • Sailthru allows us to see how well an ad in a newsletter has done by day and week -- allowing us to gift insight for our clients on their ads that ran that week.
  • Sailthru only gives you clicks and touch rates, where as other platforms go deeper and give you insight on hover rates and interaction time with our ads featured.
