Both of the products I have used in the past were much more medium-large sized businesses. They both had functionalities which are helpful from a trending perspective, have better reporting, and a much more involved user base. The cost of these are prohibitive compared to …
I felt that AlienVault performed the SIEM aspect as well as the one mentioned. My opinion has always been that the SIEM product is as good as the person using it is experienced. I selected AlienVault because of the many added features.
Comparisons with other products can be tricky, since AlienVault packs a lot into its product, and that essentially is its main strength vs. the competition. For people just looking for SIEM like functionality it is definitely compatible to other products, but some of the …
It's all because of price. Price for virtual deployment is really good and cheap. The update costs for every year are also low, nearly 30% of first year license price. So few companies often look for USM. Also there an AlienVault Labs, that look like they working, but it's not …
AlienVault stands above all the SIEM solutions for its well-integrated asset management, vulnerability assessment module, behavior analysis and its other modules providing a single console for managing the complete security of the information in an organization. The other …
AlienVault may be slightly less refined when compared to other enterprise offerings. But in our testing, we found either the cost, licensing model, learning curve, or any combination of the three, made AlienVault's competitors not appropriate for our environment. Over the past …
Alienvault USM is user-friendly and easy to understand. The ease of log integration and plugin development has made the solution better when compared to other SIEM tools. Also, Alienvault USM offers more than just the SIEM functions, other interesting features are added which …
In comparison to Splunk, LogRhythm, and Arcsight, AlienVault came in at a great price. Also, AlienVault doesn't do "per event" pricing (which is confusing for those new to SIEM). When we did our review, AlienVault just offered more out of the box security capabilities than …
In my opinion, for each component found within AlienVault you'll find better functionality within a different commercial product. QRadar's SIEM will be faster, Arcsight's parsing superior, Tripwire's FIM more robust, and Sourcefire's detection unparalleled. What you get with …
We are a SMB security firm, so we have a focus on analyzing complex events/ attacks trends, possibily leveraging not-so-expensive security products: AlienVault USM has a perk on that, by delivering an essential but state-of-the-art analysis environment.
AlienVault Unified Security Management solution is extremely flexible and customisable when compared to other SIEM tools such as Splunk, HP ArcSight, LogaRythm etc. The log collectors supported by most of the SIEM tools are mostly limited, and writing new collectors involves a …
I considered and compared different SIEM solutions before I purchased AlienVault. Solutions such as the Solarwinds, Symantec, HP/ArcSight and Splunk solutions.
When I compared the pricing and features, AlienVault won on every level. AlienVault is more than a SIEM solution. …
HP Arcsight and QRadar was not so easy and financially interesting to scale. LogRhythm lacked some key functionalities. Splunk is more like an advanced Log Management tool.
At this point I'm saying a 4. While the marketing material make it appear to be easy to use and it was relatively easy to set up, as previously mentioned, each event description is based upon the individual asset making it nearly impossible for the administrator to be a SME for each asset. For example, if one of the assets reporting is a router, the administrator monitoring alerts would need to know what the various events are that can be triggered as an event for the particular router; however, if the asset is a workstation, the administrator would need to know the various events that are triggered for workstations.
New Relic its an excellent tool for monitoring services used on the SAAS universe, like web servers, relational and nosql dbms, reverse proxies, text databases, etc. Its also a powerful tool to monitor resource usage on said servers. However, its not well fitted to monitor custom services - if you need to generate alerts based on logs or database information, for example
In the current lot of hundreds of SIEM solutions out there in the market, ArcSight ESM is fairly less expensive with strong fundamentals in place. The log ingestion, correlation are very well performing and totally worth ROI. However, the tool has lost its way when it comes to staying abreast with current feature curve of SIEM technology and the evolution has not been done by MicroFocus. Search times are high and there is no major plug-in that has been introduced as part of the product life cycle.
AlienVault USM is simple and easy to deploy. Sensors can be deployed in as little as 15 minutes through the setup wizard.
The USM UI is easy to understand. I've trained multiple analysts who are able to perform their duties on their first day, in part because of USM Anywhere's ease of use.
Top-notch built-in compliance templates and reporting features.
Integration with smart logger and ESM to create rules and easy management of the same.
Easy integration with all end point security management tool(IPS/IDS, Firewall, Anti-Virus) and their consolidated output at a single place to effectively rectifying true and false positives.
Personally, I've wished I could purchase a service that would configure AV for my environment. I get a lot of traffic on a daily basis and I almost need to hire an analyst that just works on AV.
Some of the filters when looking for a specific alert aren't that easy to use.
And while powerful, building tailored dashboards with organ-specific metrics (such as energy load variance across regions) can be difficult to navigate. The UI isn't as drag-and-drop easy, and query-based widgets typically involve some trial and error for non-devs.
Alerts may be hypersensitive or over general. I We often get a spam of non-critical alerts while doing load testing, all overhauling to me alone and making it difficult to identify actual issues especially in energy systems where spikes are very common.
With our expanding fleet of Iot devices, the per-host pricing model is becoming expensive, quickly. More detailed billing based on microservices, or that works at sensor level, would make it more adaptable for energy platforms.
The centralized logging and retention for PCI compliance was our main driver, and it is meeting that need. Otherwise there has been enough frustration with the lack of documentation and the need to customize through the CLI that I would be open to alternatives.
The only issue that we have had with New Relic is that the price might be a little expensive for smaller companies. The amount of data you store in New Relic impacts the cost, and can get away from you if you don't work closely with the vendor. Overall though the application is top notch.
Once you are able to navigate the different panels, finding what you need is quite easily. Before getting used it it can be a bit of challenge . Each panel is quite well laid out and the filtering search capabilities are quite strong.
I have given this much rating as I am used New Relic in different sectors and for different use cases like its K8s monitoring, infra monitoring, full stack monitoring as compare to other tools New Relic gives data in a formatted and connected way, and also it is giving us value for money. It also launches new features day by day which helps users to track the issue very quickly. It also supports OTel integrations which is the latest trend of observability tools. thats why I had given this much rating to New Relic.
Overall, it is a good investment in order for an organization to stay compliant and stay secure from all the wild things happening. It is definitely a cost effective tool with some good features including correlation, log storage, reporting and dashboards. If a customer is looking for advanced set of features, then I would highly not recommend this.
We do have issues with maintenance on the AlienVault USM as the disk fills up from time to time with other data sources. Sources for scanning logs and net flow data isn't calculated in regular disk maintenance and can easily fill up our disk if we do not keep an eye on it with some custom Nagios plugins. The system does properly trim logging data from logging sources properly.
With the latest release of AlienVault USM overall performance has not been an issue. We have noticed single source events per second does not scale well with the overall system. 2,000eps on a vmware system with a single source produces delays of up to an hour for us. Pages, reporting and even raw log searches are rather quick though.
The support we received from alienvault was excellent. They went above and beyond in making sure everything was working as it needed to be. They REALLY want their product implementation to be a success and our security goals be achieved. They are like a member of our security team.
The support team has been really helpful and resolved most of the issues on time. However, for a couple of issues, several follow-ups were needed to elicit a reasonable response. The issue was deeply technical and could have been investigated only by their Architects, and bringing them into the ticket took longer than needed
I personally haven't reached the support team, however, the engineers never complained about the Arcsight support team. We had some issues with the tool in the past but every time we reached the support, all issues were resolved in a timely manner.
I did not have any experience with "in person" training directly. The free online classes offered for a half a day are based on the actual training offered. These little teasers are very good and well worth your time to learn a few quick and dirty ways of getting more information from your SIEM
It was very well organized and helpful in using the product to the fullest extent. The instructor allowed time for folks who were involved with managed services to receive tuning tips in order to better support their customers. In addition, the course materials were automatically updated when the new version came out.
AlienVault USM was a very simple to implement and get up and running. We started with a trial version and had that up and going within an hour of receiving email instructions from the sales engineer. We never had to contact support to get the system up and going. It was extremely easy to convert over to a full license once we started with a paid version.
It's better to start by implementing New Relic in one project and test everything. Try to follow best recommended practices and read all the official documentation. Everything seems well tested. Then, start by installing agents to the rest of your projects and keep a close look to all logs and metrics New Relic gives you.
Splunk's ES is a paid add-on on top of an already pricey product. Finding a MSSP that supports Splunk and isn't a 6 figure annual commitment seems unlikely. LogRhythm did not have a cloud-based solution when we were considering SIEMs. Fantastic product though and have a good MSSP base. Devo did not have a MSSP partner base when we looked. Their product is fantastic too. AlienVault USM has good partners to choose from as well as an affordable cloud model, that's why we chose it.
Data Dog has solutions that look more attractive, but not at their price point. We have also tried to build a solution straight from the Cloud, where our business is built, but some things are too hard to replicate. This shows that New Relic is useful and helps our efficiency.
Multiple platforms are already supported by Arcsight. Support is good. Scripts can be used to get data from multiple threat intel sources & the same can be used in correlation rules to detect any suspicious activity. Reporting features are good & you can check any backdated information within new clicks.
The AlienVault USM is not very scalable. Some scalability can be achieved by installing additional sensors, but this only offers 500eps per sensor and is still overall limited by the installation type of VM or physical. We have also noticed the EPS (events per second) is rated overall and not towards a single source. A single source on a very healthy VMware partition tops out at 2,000eps for us, no matter how we configure it. Maybe this is a problem of the 5.2 release?
Once you hit the 150 asset mark, you have to jump to their unlimited license. There is no middle ground. We were only 10 or so assets above the 150 so we had to chose to either not monitor those assets or pay the price of the upgrade.
AlienVault brings all the information to one place which makes it much quicker to track down problems.
Logger helps us to decrease incident response times.
It also decreased our project times with the man/day calculations. Before this solution, it may take up to 10 men/days to do something. After this, it becomes nearly half of the time.
