Moz Link Explorer

If you would like a high-level overview of how healthy your backlink profile is, Link Explorer is a simple, straightforward and easy to understand tool for that. You can easily get a sense of how many backlinks, and what types of backlinks your website has and what types of anchor texts are used to link to your website. You can keep track of new and lost links over time as well as group spammy links in a folder. Furthermore, you can compare your backlink profile with that of other websites such as a competitor’s domain.

The software is not quite suitable for e-commerce, yet is powerful for gaining organic results.

Pros

Moz Link Explorer

  • It links in with Moz’s domain authority concept, which we use as our main metric of how well our SEO works.
  • It shows you which sites link to you, and ranks to them by domain authority. This helps us understand where our best inbound links come from, and to hopefully target those valuable partners for more links.
  • It shows you which keywords you rank for, your position on the search engine results pages for each keyword, and how difficult it is to rank for those keywords. We use this to spot where we rank on the second or third page for medium difficulty keywords. We’ll then write content to target those keywords.

SEO PowerSuite

  • The product was easy to use. I had no problems understanding how to use the product or setting it up.
  • SEO PowerSuite gave clear concise charts that were easy to read and helped upper level management better understand our strengths and weaknesses
  • I could pull new information about keyword rankings everyday if I needed to.

Cons

Moz Link Explorer

  • Lack of instant export of data. Adds to a queue rather than being instant.
  • Advanced reports are needed for larger websites and come at the cost of a subscription to Moz Pro.

SEO PowerSuite

  • Unlike most of the other high-end SEO platforms, SEO PowerSuite is not an integrated platform. PowerSuite is a suite of four individual tools. This can make learning the workflow a bit daunting. They do have the training, However, I think it could be better
  • The SEO PowerSuite set of tools are desktop applications as opposed to being a web-based platform. Depending on your machine this does take some computing power. The applications are pretty efficient but it is something to be aware of.

I gave SEO PowerSuite a two because our company did not renew our subscription. The pricing was too complicated and having multiple platforms made it more difficult to use. We dropped our subscription to SEO PowerSuite and implemented Moz. Moz gave us a full view of all of the metrics we were looking for on one web-based platform. Plus, the pricing model was simple so it was easier to get senior management to cosign on.

I put a middling score here because of the difference in support between the free and premium uses. The Free tool was a great service, but there wasn't much support. It was tool that was intended to have a skilled SEO utilize it and save time. The Premium version has great support, but also offered more information so that skilled SEOs and novices alike could benefit from the tool.

I have had several interactions with support at SEO PowerSuite. Each time I have been quite pleased with the response. I have interacted with billing and tools support and have found them to both be on top of things. they follow up well and they get the issue resolved in a timely manner. I have no complaints here.

Alternatives Considered

Moz Link Explorer

I think Moz Link Explorer is a great add-on to the overall Moz tool, but compared to Ahrefs, it’s not as robust because Ahrefs' main focus is on the backlink profile. I like SEMRush’s function of being able to reach out to websites directly from the platform and track all of your progress in there.

SEO PowerSuite

SEO PowerSuite is a unique SEO software because it runs on your computer. Unlike Ahrefs or Moz, which run as SaS, this tool depends on your computer resources to crawl and gather data from the websites which can be a good thing, because your business lives on your computer. This can also be a negative thing because Google sometimes show their "captcha" since they recognize your machine as a crawler.PowerSuite recently improved their SEO SpyGlass' link index and now compete with the big dogs, such as Moz and Ahrefs and SEMrush, but not Majestic. They require you to pay a monthly fee for their "algo updates" which increases the cost of their "one time payment" marketing model.

Return on Investment

Moz Link Explorer

  • Took hours of manual work and programatically did it in a few clicks
  • Gave a game plan for future SEO strategies
Scott Walker | TrustRadius Reviewer

SEO PowerSuite

  • One subscription for 4 packages is convenient.
  • However some clients only require one of the suite tools so the ability to buy one at a time would be good.
