NetWeaver

The SAP Enterprise Portal has been a well suited SAP extension for many years, it has been used for grouping and showing the netweaver abap and java programs over the web in a secure way and controlled by the stronger security layer created between netweaver roles, and portal roles, it is yet used by many organizations included ours, it can be used on intranet or internet with no problem. The only thing that would be less appropriate is in a green field project, because there is the cloud alternative which offers high integration with new technologies, the architecture is very similar, but higher on components and integration.

Verint Community (Telligent)

The Verint Community we have is well suited to our clients in that they are willing to share knowledge and build knowledge on the platform. The one area we see complaints are the default email notifications. These are expected on a social networking site, but not so much on a support site like ours.

Cons

NetWeaver

  • It has a short life because nowdays seems its going to be everything on the Cloud BTP.
  • A bit slow on the deployment of the central point portal by iviews.
  • It is by now not compatible with Fiori 3.0 and its features.

Verint Community (Telligent)

  • Permissions can be a bit time consuming since they must be set group by group instead of at an admin level.
  • Needs more options for integration that don't require significant technical expertise.

I am not part of this decision making process, but I did provide positive feedback to the decision making board.

Very usable once you learn some of the quirks - for example, when uploading a video you need to know it must be within a certain size limit or else the upload won't display, and if you upload it a certain way, then it will be a PDF even if you upload an Excel sheet. But once you figure out some of the nuances, its usability (ease of use) is very high. It is not a long or painful learning curve - just a matter of refining various use cases.

So far so good. We also worked with Social Edge Consulting to enable our Verint Community and would highly recommend their services

Alternatives Considered

NetWeaver

SAP Enterprise Portal is a compress and easy to access to many sap netweaver applications, because many of them can't be accessed by web method so they can be integrated on the portal and be used, with an authorization profile to get access to them by the portal, its has like a mixed authorization protocol, the portal authorization to get to the right iviews that you need depending on your role on the organization, and a sub-level of roles and authorizations depending on the netweaver system you are using [with] the app.

Verint Community (Telligent)

As stated in my opening, Verint fulfilled all of our business needs and has the most robust out of the box functionality. Many of the other platforms require heavy customization for design and reporting. Telligent has a full library of drag and drop widgets and a theme studio that allows community managers to design group pages and update their theme without having to be technically savvy. Telligent also hosts automation rules that can be written to leverage the APIs to automate community processes. Reporting includes: Community health, Top searches, Searches with no results, Active/Viewed Content, Active/New Groups, Member participation and several more

Return on Investment

NetWeaver

  • It is quick to implement, its not hard to understand and apply it business logic for grouping, showing and managing the iviews and authorization.
  • The basis team that was administrating the netweaver platform its the same administering portal so its not necesary aditional consultants.
  • Negative is that it seems like everything is going to the Portal Cloud on BTP.

Verint Community (Telligent)

  • Increased efficiency.
  • Support Queue reductions.
  • New clients expect to network with other clients so the Verint Community has become a sales differentiator in many cases.
