Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Symantec Email Threat Dectection and Response is used to filter incoming and outgoing mail traffic from Office 365 exchange. Our company use to have a challenge with users sharing sensitive information via email and since the implementation of the Symantec email threat detection tool we had no occurrences of such information passing inbound or outbound.

Likelihood to Recommend
I have had a suitation where the company domain was being blasted by tons of spam emails and the Symantec Email Threat Detection stood to the test and block all these harmful email from entering our users mailbox, for a less appropriate scenario would be the frequency of the false positives that are reported that I have to train the tool how to allow these traffic to pass.

We have been using Symantec Endpoint, now Broadcom for 11+ years. We install the client locally on all school-owned and as many student computers as possible. We have been less successful in that regard as we would like and are currently investigating a migration to a different true EDR product.
Pros and Cons
  • Scans computers for viruses
  • Notifies admins of infections
  • Good licensing process
Likelihood to Recommend
From a price point Symantec cannot be beat in EDU. However, for better EDR a more robust, fully featured solution is desirable. I am not sure if Broadcom is continuing to develop the product either after purchasing it.
Return on Investment
  • It has been a good solution for the time we have used it.
Alternatives Considered
We are making a migration from Symantec to SentinelOne in the near future for easier deployment, better EDR and management functionality.
