Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Emails are issued randomly for the organisation to spot as being unsafe and report. It keeps us all alert due to no specific type of email or time of day or eek they are issued.

The score board creates friendly competition between staff and team and ignites discussion on how the email was spotted as being risky to to some and not others.

It also provides a greater need to be meticulous and focused with regard to the emails that we all receive.

It has also created more open conversation of discussing if others have received and email and if someone is unsure whether to comply with the email this is discussed more so now.

It has shown where people are too engaged in getting a task completed that they may not read and investigate emails adequately.

Pros

  • Creates a more open discussion on the types of emails that should be approached with caution.
  • Focuses you to be more vigilant
  • Educates you on the different types of risk you may encounter

Cons

  • When someone is away and their out of office is active this is not picked up and this causes them to move down in the scoreboard as missed.
  • the steps to go through before completing the sections of each Hoxhunt can be tedious
  • the site is somewhat childish

Hoxhunt is a great cybersecurity training tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My workplace uses Hoxhunt to train employees how to identify phishing and other scam emails that could potentially be dangerous if clicked on. Hoxhunt sends an email to me every so often that resembles one of these dangerous emails, and it is my task to identify it and report it. Then Hoxhunt goes through an explanation and teaches me how to identify what to look for in dangerous emails so that I can more easily identify them. I, along with other employees, are much more prepared for when a real phishing attempt threatens our workplace. We will be able to identify and report it instead of falling for it and clicking on the link.

Pros

  • Sending emails at regular intervals to keep me engaged and aware of phishing attempts
  • Identifying different types of dangerous emails
  • Teaching me what to do when I come across dangerous emails.

Cons

  • More training opportunities - The Hoxhunt page itself only has a few training modules which I have completed already
  • An even spicier spicy mode - Scammers are always evolving, so I want to be able to identify the toughest phishing attempts.
  • Eliminate "missed" emails. Sometimes I don't read my inbox right away. I don't think emails should count as "missed" just because I didn't report it within a few days.

Return on Investment

  • This is not applicable.

Hoorah for Hoxhunt!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our organization uses Hoxhunt to train us to spot malicious emails. Some of the Hoxhunt emails are tricky as they appear to originate from a coworker. Because of the training I have received at work, I have become attuned to potential threats and inspect my emails carefully both from my work and personal accounts. I feel equipped now to spot the culprits and I appreciate that my organization has invested not only in its security but also in mine. Hoxhunt is a great tool to inform and educate its audience about potential cyber threats. Hoxhunt is so much better than stale security videos in monotone dialogue. I get a Hoxhunt email every couple of weeks and they are very creative!

Pros

  • Makes me think it’s real
  • Measures my progress in levels - with each lesson completed, I receive confirmation of successfully identifying a fake email
  • Educates the user to the potential threat in well-defined examples

Cons

  • Sometimes the email is easy to spot as there are over 500 people in our organization and I don’t have any work interaction with that person’s department. I would be less suspicious of an email from a coworker in my department.

Return on Investment

  • I’m not able to measure that due to my role at our company.
  • I do know it is well received by my coworkers.

Usability

Dont get caught, get Hoxhunt!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hoxhunt is used everyday to make us aware and alert on suspicious emails. Personally I think it's a great idea as we deal with a wide range of data from the resident and businesses in our Borough. Therefore we need to ensure everything is secure and any threats to compromise the data is eliminated as soon as possible.

Pros

  • realistic and genuine looking emails
  • keeping a track record for yourself, team and organisation
  • opportunity to offer feedback like this survey

Cons

  • Only adjustment I'd like to see is to offer an incentive to colleagues who are consistently in the top 10.

Return on Investment

  • sometimes can be time consuming especially if in the middle of drafting up a response to a resident.
