We use SUSE Manager to bootstrap new systems, automate the configuration of all Linux OS systems in the environment (SLES, OEL, RHEL), completely automate the repository updates to fixed points by date or project and to run commands on groups of servers via Salt. All these tasks work equally well in the various clouds and on premise.
  • Manages patch levels for most Linux OS by: date, group, cloud or custom channels
  • Uses a lite version of Salt to run commands or scripts on any numbers of servers at once.
  • Allows the joining of groups inside SUSE Manager to quickly access or work with servers so grouped.
  • The inability of the proxy servers to cache anything not cached on the main server.
SUSE Manager is particularly well suited for a mixed Linux OS environment or even with multiple organizations. You can create unlimited groups and or channels to organize repositories without adding storage requirements.
  • Software Channels
  • System Groups
  • Lite Salt Version
  • Managing one OS repository for three Linux flavors saves resources

Support from SUSE handles any problems but our inhouse staff support SUMA for audits and user account maintance of MSP. The product is all web GUI driven and no special skills are needed.
  • Upgrade Linux OS servers
  • Run commands remotely on Linux OS servers
  • Track vulnerability to specific bugs
  • Manage and audit configuration files or services
  • Migrate Service Packs for SLES
I am expanding the use of SUSE Manager throughout our organization and can't imagine going back to the "wild wild west" we had before.
The quality of support is very good. I miss the days when you could call a support representative directly and get things done in one fell swoop.
My company will not authorize nor do we need it. We only really have any problems when upgrading.
Yes
They wrote me a hotfix in short order.
I actually had a bug that was not a show stopper but was annoying and they connected me directly to a pair of developers who wrote a hotfix for me. They later asked me to test a release candidate that fixed the problem.

  • Automate processes, run scripts and control software updates on our 250+ Linux OS servers, including SUSE, OEL, and RHEL
  • Create operational efficiencies and cost management (the two biggest reasons we purchased SUSE Manager originally)
  • Security team also uses SUSE Manager to audit our patch levels and create vulnerability reports
  • OS updates and patching
  • Salt Stack lite automation
  • The inability of the proxy servers to cache anything not cached on the main server
SUSE Manager handles the patching/updating of the major Linux OSes to a specific level based on a fixed date very well. This allows us to fully test through each of our non-production environments before moving on to the next, without stopping the updates of the local repository.
  • Salt Stack lite included
  • Proxy servers
  • Reduced administrative effort by replacing four other products.
  • Reduced time and resources to implement with Salt

We have adopted this solution in all three of our zones encompassing the whole world
SUSE Manager provided a top-tier support person on site to us for two days to help integration. We did all the standard stuff they help with before he arrived. We were able to use him to get all the tricky stuff identified and solved in the short time we had. Had they sent us a lower-tier guy, it would have been a waste. I was impressed they sent such knowledgeable person.
We have only been using standard support for years and are happy with the service we have received.
Yes
Yes, they created a patch for me within a few days.
