Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Confluence

We are using Confluence to store reference architectures and documents. There is also sales collateral, statements of work, demo overview and instructions and many other things. This is for collaboration with the entire architecture community at Datalink. Everyone has access to it and it is used as a central store of information. Everyone also has the ability to update and edit content. Solution designs and many other guides are also posted on this site.
  • It is easy to access as a SaaS or on-premise tool and fairly easy to make updates as long as you have the proper access.
  • It allows for both documents and pictures. You can easily paste text in or paste a picture on a page.
  • Central place of storage. Easy to access from the internet and available to everyone.
  • It's hard to navigate at times. I'm not sure if this is because of the way our site is set up or it's just unclear what to click to get where.
  • It's similar to SharePoint in its capabilities as a site. We have that too, so it's confusing what is where.
  • It's not integrated as well with Office like SharePoint is.
  • I don't think it has had a positive ROI for us. We have a lot of info posted on the site, but it's mainly contributed to by a core set of people.
  • Part of our negative impact is that we have several tools with similar function for our knowledge base. Confluence, SharePlan, and SharePoint. Which do we use for what?
  • Hard to make people participate with it also. Many are too busy or just plain don't want to.
We actually use all of the above, so we did not select just one. That is part of our problem. Confluence stacks up well against all of these platforms, but they are all so similar so organizations end up using both. I believe they all have similar value propositions as well, so it's a crowded space for collaboration.
It's a good fit as a collaboration site for both online content and documents. Not much more to say than that.
