Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

We are a small business with few employees. Avalara is helping us stay compliant with the 35 states that we have to file sales tax in and make sure we remit correct and accurate information. They also are going to be integrated into our software which will take that many more processes off my plate.

Pros

  • The ability to customize my dashboard to my needs
  • Predicted costs based on previous sales tax data
  • We have been able to keep staffing the same even though business has more than doubled.
  • Avalara filing my returns has cut down on my time spent by hours.
  • I hopeful our new integrations will soon help the rest of the sales staff as well.

It was initially easy, then I needed some support from my ERP software. The Avalara side of it was incredibly easy and the support person was very attentive.
No software is perfect, but Avalara is close. I appreciate that they are constantly looking for feedback to improve their product. While reviewing different aspects I can see clearly what they are looking to achieve, which is the easiest experience for their users.
Avalara Returns
It has saved a ton of time using Avalara returns. I can upload them all together and then check back in a couple of days to see them as filed. It is a much easier thing now that is off my to do list.

Most of my sales tax knowledge has come from Avalara. Attending the conference gave me a solid foundation into an unfamiliar world. Then the continuing education from the ambassador program has helped me stay current. As the company has grown so has our compliance needs and Avalara has been able to keep up with our changing needs easily and made my job easier.

Cross-Border Tax Compliance with Avalara

Yes, they let me know when I am nearing Nexus to avoid any fines. We are registered with over 35 states and keeping track of all the tax changes would be nearly impossible.
No new sales lines, just simplified several peoples work load so we can do more business with the same number of employees.
Yes - We have Avalara integrated into our ERP system so the guess work has been taken out.
No, unfortunately the shipping costs are the issues that holds us back from selling across these markets.

Using Avalara

3 - Our quote manager, AR manager, and myself (controller) all benefit from Avalara in terms of quoting and invoicing tax rates, and myself with return submission.

It has saved the AR manager from asking tax related questions and myself time from answering them. It pulls the data automatically and now the quoting manager also doesn't have to spend time guessing and double checking every order.
I wouldn't, it worked great.

I was having an issue with my Michigan return and we were able to discover the error and fix the problem quickly.
