Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce

BigCommerce is the foundation of our online business across multiple countries, it provides the base functionality we need to put our products in front of customers in a clear and accessible way. Its powerful API allows us to connect easily to third-party platforms and add the functionality we need to produce a storefront which converts.
  • Integrates with best of breed apps
  • Easy to customise
  • Multi Store front is a game changer
  • Better and easier localisation for stores outside the US
  • Speed - it is not the fastest
  • Make sure that third-party theme developers update regularly and use best practice
  • Consider EU and country-specific rules and legal obligations and make customers aware of whether BC is actually fully compliant
  • BigCommerce reduced the complexity of our tech stack which also reduced cost
  • Easy to Launch new stores
  • Good selection of integrated Payment Providers with no Fees
BigCommerce is a great platform, however, if you run multiple sites which aren't in the same Multi Store group then you are 100% going to need a PIM to manage your product info. Managing Themes is also not so simple and of course, the cost of apps across multiple sites easily adds up. Also, if you need anything like decent B2B functionality you will have to pay more for this as well, most of this functionality should be built into the Enterprise level anyway.
Our AI-powered search feature uses the API to great effect and this really does give a great customer experience and also drives our category pages, it is a good job really as the default BC search is rather poor. - We also use the API to connect to SAP B1 for order management as well as to a PIM for product management.
BigCommerce even with add-ons such as a PIM and B2B functionality wins for small businesses on affordability and ease of use. No servers or updates to worry about and no expensive agencies to pay. This being said, if the budget were no issue, for larger organisations Magento is perhaps a better option.

Did implementation of BigCommerce go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy BigCommerce again?

Yes

We have found BigCommerce is great for stores of all sizes and is relatively quick to get a basic store to market. There is plenty built into the platform by default, although, some of the features favour the US market and others don't quite work. Product filtering should be included in all but the most basic level, there are apps that can do this but that adds bloat and can cost as much as you pay for BC in the first place. Many of the apps are overpriced for adding some really basic functionality which could easily be included and again each app you add slows down the platform and lowers the store's performance.
