Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT

We purchased Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT relatively early because we thought it would benefit all of us, both front-line fundraisers and those who wanted to be able to easily run analytical reports or lists.
  • Makes it easy to look up a constituent's record
  • Makes it easy to check off event attendance
  • Much faster loading and response time than hosted RE7
  • When we purchased it, the account rep talked about all of the improvements that were planned. Our experience has been that almost every improvement has been in an area we do not use. We have requested improvements that would make the analysis and reporting more useful to us (like having constituency instead of the primary constituency as an option), but these improvements have not been forthcoming.
  • It is continually frustrating that when you look up a person, you cannot type in the name and press return to see results (which is the way every other search tool works)
  • The menu structure and nomenclature are so different from RE7 that it is difficult to figure out where to find things - plus I believe it has changed a few times since we started.
  • The report builder is very limited. Honestly, it is easier to get what I want in excel.
  • Looking up constituents on the fly - including from mobile phones.
  • Absolutely none.
We use the analytics provided by Research Point in our RE7 database and in reports we pull from that. NXT is incapable of giving us the exact data we want in a format we can use in order to facilitate our work. We do, however, rely heavily on Research Point in assessing our donor base.
The training was fine, it just can't overcome the limitations of the product itself. We are a data-driven program, and NXT does not provide enough data in a usable enough visual format for training to be the thing that makes the difference.
We have not done a formal assessment of other products, but we are somewhat familiar with Veracross since we use them for our SIS. We are beginning a list of alternatives as we are faced with decreasing responsiveness of RE7/Blackbaud (runs incredibly slowly, unstable) and the inadequacy of NXT. It's unlikely that we will go with Veracross, but it is likely that we will consider a change in the next few years.

It is fine for frontline fundraisers who only want to be able to look up a prospect's information or add action notes. For anything else, it is a limited tool. Also, if you add a document to a record in NXT (like a call report), it does not appear in RE7!
