Overall Satisfaction with Emburse Chrome River

Our entire organization uses the platform to submit expense reports. It streamlines the process and makes sure all expense reports are stored in one place.
  • Allows customization of expense types and GL accounts. Our users can select from different tiles to easily select what their expense relates to.
  • Approval process is very simple
  • The main dashboard page is sort of confusing until you get to use it a few times. There are several steps you have to take to submit an expense line item. Once you create the report, you have to then click add, then add again, then find the expense type. It's confusing for some users to figure out how to get to actually picking the expense type.
  • The direct pay feature, which allows us to pay employees electronically automatically through the system, is done through a 3rd party. It would be better if Chrome River had this feature on their own so we didn't have to come to terms with a 3rd party that we don't use as a vendor ourselves.
  • Very positive impact on our time management of expense report processing. We have saved several hours each month.
The system works fine, and all of our users have become familiar with it. However, we are unable to pay employees electronically directly from the system, so we have to do that separately, which adds additional time. That time is crucial, and it would be very helpful if they had other ways to offer that feature.
It's been a long time since we compared expense platforms. Ultimately we decided that Chrome River was the best option for us, and we believe we made the right choice. I don't remember specifics about other platforms unfortunately.
Customer support is good in answering any question we may have. My only concern is that it can take some time. Tickets need to be submitted via their help desk or via email. There is no way to call customer service, so if you have an urgent request, it's very difficult to get an answer right away.
The software is great for companies that have lots of expense reports. We are a small company, but every employee has an expense report every month for at least their cell phone reimbursement. Many have more than that, but we are getting a report from everyone monthly.

  • The product just helps automate everyone's expense reports so each individual isn't doing their own thing.
  • We are a small firm, and there really isn't anything we are doing that was unexpected. We just are glad to have everything automated.
  • I can't think of anything else we will do to expand the ability of the expense reports. Everything is going smoothly.
There is a possibility that we look to see if other platforms can help us pay employees directly right from the expense reporting system. Currently we have to download all the reports and enter them into another system to have them paid electronically. That would be only reason we would look elsewhere.
