Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Umbrella
Cisco Umbrella is used to filter and report on outbound web traffic within the organization. Reports can be created which show top users, flag for violations, and allow you to get a better picture of web and SaaS application usage within the organization. Integrates with active directory to make policy application easy.
Pros
- Create granular policies based on AD group membership
- Generate periodic usage reporting
- Provide a filter against malicious web sites
Cons
- Unfortunate that DLP is an additional SKU to purchase
- Some of the SaaS reports cannot be customized as much as might be liked
- Provide an additional layer of DNS security by vetting web traffic
- Help to understand who is consuming bandwidth so we can make adjustments as needed.
- The cost of a single incident from bad web surfing or searches could be enormous. Umbrella helps to avoid these scenarios.
- Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Cisco Aironet and Catalyst Access Points

- Cisco Secure Endpoint
Tuning the end user experience in a way that made the most sense for them based on how they work. Sometimes this varies by department.
In talking to colleagues, I feel like overall the experience was well received and people were comfortable with the tolls that they had. The learning curve may have existed initially, but with Covid folks generally came around and understood where each of the various tools worked.
Cisco Jabber Client served as our softphone client. Cisco Umbrella filtered and protected web traffic. Traffic served off of Cisco switches and firewalls. We have not used Webex as much, being more of a MS teams shop.
- Cisco Meraki Z3 Teleworker (discontinued)
Different products in different spaces. The Z3 was more of a VPN endpoint so that users didn't have to worry about a client. If they are at home, they are on their corporate network and able to access resources. Cisco Umbrella can be used then to serve corporate DNS across the VPN tunnel to the Z3 device and extend the capabilities of Cisco Umbrella.
