Overall Satisfaction with Critical Mention

At our agency Critical Mention is used specifically for locating broadcast coverage that we normally wouldn't be able to view on our own. This includes broadcast from multiple local and national outlets so that we can share with our clients those segments that may concern them. The Critical Mention service is used across our entire agency as a way to find clips.
  • Critical mention is good at finding a large amount of broadcast clips on particular subjects and news cycles.
  • The ability to search certain shows on stations has proven to be difficult at times and then you have to look up things by timestamp specifically.
  • A feature that I tried to use and did not have any success in is with searching radio. I tried looking up something within the iHeartRadio network and was not successful.
  • Transcription accuracy has been a problem in the past where I was unable to find certain clips and I've had to use a customer service rep for guidance.
  • Every week the department I am a part does dozens of searches on Critical Mention. We use it as our primary search engine for all things broadcast.
  • One negative aspect is that we do not know where Critical Mention gets their audience viewing numbers from so we just have to take it as their word.
  • Another negative aspect is that we are limited on the amount of time that one clip can be so we have to share several clips of the same show with our clients.
  • TVeye
I honestly do not know of any other alternatives to Critical Mention that I have personally used in a professional capacity. The only one that I am aware of is TYeye and from what I have heard about the platform from colleagues is that Critical Mention is a much better and user-friendly system.
I use Critical Mention for broadcast searches and finding certain clips. It is the best service for broadcast searching and there is not another viable alternative on the market to my knowledge. Critical Mention is less appropriate for online searches and needing impressions. For this my agency typically uses other services like Cision and Alexa, as they are more up to the industry standard for PR.
