Overall Satisfaction with D&B Hoovers

We use D&B Hoovers' data extensively for 1. Calculating Total Addressable Market (TAM)- Company count and Employee Size 2. M&A Analysis - Shortlisting the targets based on parameters like Revenue, Region, PE backup, NAICS code, etc. 3. Extract contact details of prospect customers 4. Industry Analysis

Pros

  • Company data
  • Accurate contact details
  • Filter by NAICS code, SIC codes, and D&B Industry classification comes very handily to shortlist companies

Cons

  • Limited downloads based on credits
  • Data keeps changing (Not very significant though)
  • Better visualization of data (Charts, Graphs, timeseries etc.)
  • High ROI
  • Value for money
  • Time saved
The below are common fields that I extensively use for filtering. Revenue to segment by the size of the company, Employees- To understand the size by number of employees, HQ - where the company is HQed, NAICS and SIC (along with description)- Which specific industry the company belongs. D&B also provides D&B classification of industries, which is very handy when we are unable to bucket the customer/prospect in any one particular NAICS or SIC.
It does! The system provides email addresses, phone contacts, employment levels (C-Suite, VP, Director, etc.), and location details. This has facilitated setting up virtual meetings and in-person encounters. However, some contacts lack phone numbers, making it challenging to reach the intended person through general contact lines. Therefore, it would be beneficial if phone contacts were made available for at least Director-level and above contacts.

In my present company I use both D&B Hoovers and ZoomInfo Sales OS. D&B is more robust, detailed and exhaustive than ZoomInfo. However, Zoominfo's upload list option is easier and quicker than D&B.

D&B Hoovers is very appropriate for quantitive analysis like TAM calculation, Accurate Company Info (Revenue, Employees, PE Owner, NAICS code), Extracting contact details of prospective customers, However, there is a scope for improvement with qualitative information. D&B Hoovers is not suited for qualitative market intelligence like news, deals insights, etc.
