Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

We use Deputy to schedule all of our departments across our retail store. We have 6 departments and 2 locations with about 50 total employees. With the rise of technology and the large age range of our employees, Deputy gives us a platform that is easy to use and accessible for all ages of employees.
  • Leave management.
  • Avoiding scheduling conflicts.
  • Ability to communicate with employees in a single platform.
  • Ability for employees to communicate with each other.
  • It would be nice to have the ability to block out (available or unavailable) times for employees.
  • Approving leave was made more difficult with the latest update because of taking you from one screen to another. Before the update, you could approve in the popup and then easily go to the next.
  • More continuity between the web and mobile platforms.
  • Deputy has cut our scheduling time in half.
  • We are able to forecast our payroll numbers more accurately from week to week.
  • Deputy has allowed us to go paperless which saves us printing schedules for each employee.
We previously used Kronos for our scheduling and employee management. While there were some features in Kronos that were beneficial, overall Deputy is much more streamlined for our business. One feature of Kronos that was beneficial was blocking available and unavailable time for our employees (high school students, standard appointments, 2nd jobs, etc.) but the major downfall of this feature was that only management could do this which added time to our scheduler. Deputy puts the responsibility on the employee to make sure they have their available and unavailable times worked out. Deputy also allows us to use one platform for scheduling, communication, payroll files that were not available via Kronos. The addition of the Deputy app also gives management and employees more abilities to stay in touch.

While there are some features in Deputy that are cumbersome or that I would like to see changed, the product has met and exceeded most expectations for us. Between the scheduling and communication features alone, I think we have made a good choice and spent our money wisely. I recommend Deputy to many of my friends for their businesses.
Our implementation of Deputy went smoothly. I would also say that our "on-boarding" process has become much easier using Deputy as well. Training our new employees to use Deputy has simplified our scheduling process including making sure that the new employees get paid for their training times. The Deputy Kiosk also makes starting/stopping shifts less of a hassle.
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
Deputy has been the best platform for scheduling, communication, and overall employee management that we have used over the years. Being able to have all of our employee information in one area and a way to quickly send important workplace messages out to one, a few, or many employees at once has changed our communication style. For our retail setting, we can easily visualize which areas require attention and which do not.

Using Deputy

50 - Everyone in our company uses Deputy. It is our scheduling platform, our communication platform, and our HR platform. From the new hires to our company president, everyone at our company is familiar with Deputy. Our entry level employees use it for schedules and communication, management uses all features and our company president is able to stay in touch with all the employees.
3 - Our in-house support of Deputy includes the scheduler, the trainer and our general manager.

  • Communication: Didn't realize this would be such a tool!
  • Facial recognition: During COVID this allowed our time kiosk to be touch free!
  • Scheduling: Puts the responsibility on the employee to manage their time off requests!

Deputy has completely changed our time-clock, scheduling, and communication methods that we will continue to use in the future.

Evaluating Deputy and Competitors

Yes - We replaced Kronos with Deputy. Our corporate level management suggested the change, so after an evaluation and early roll-out for our retail store, we jumped on board. We were looking for an "all-in-one" solution and found it in Deputy!

Quick Initial Response
Premium support was part of the package. We rarely need it but when we do, Deputy support has been quick and right to the point.
Our initial implementation was quick and moving from one platform to this, Deputy support helped us seamlessly make the transition.
We have not had any negative issues with Deputy Support. They are quick, concise and thorough.

Yes - The mobile interface is one of the best features of Deputy. This feature allows constant contact for employees and employer. The mobile app also allows employees to have their schedule at their fingertips along with upcoming shift notifications, requests from other employees to swap shifts and important company news. The mobile app also allows employees to quickly enter time-off requests.
