Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
As video production and photography company, we use Dropbox to share assets when working remotely. We also use it for protecting our archive in the cloud. Working with large files requires a lot of storage, and Dropbox's unlimited storage has been a huge asset for us. Now that they've removed the unlimited option, we'll be leaving Dropbox early next year.
Pros
- Sync is always fast and reliable.
- Finder integration on Mac works consistently well.
- The video review tools they added compete with Frame.io and are great for sharing with stakeholders outside of the video software universe.
Cons
- Dropbox made a huge mistake getting rid of its unlimited storage. There's no way for us to stay with Dropbox now that there's no path given for those of us who use large amounts of video files.
- Having the option in finder to download a specific file first would be great.
- Using Dropbox to share and get feedback on media files has been a huge asset.
- Losing unlimited storage has driven my company into unnecessary turmoil as we scramble to find a Dropbox alternative that offers unlimited storage (we found one).
Dropbox used to have an edge on Google Drive and OneDrive with its unlimited storage option. Now they're all about the same. Dropbox decided to add features and remove storage options, when just keeping the storage would have been much better for us. The new features are great, but not worth the loss of our storage solution. Now Sync is the only viable option for us. Luckily it works just as well as Dropbox, just without unnecessary features like doc collaboration.
